Silver always has looked dated imo. I wish there were more colours to choose from.

Silver for vintage gear. Toss up for newer stuff. I have a black turntable and my next amp will probably be black

You know what they say, once you go silver you never go back!

Since there was no 'I don't really care' option, I went with Silver.
If it's a piece of gear I want, I don't really care what color it is.

If you posted this poll every year the results would probably toggle evenly between the two. There's nowt as fickle as fashion.

Tired of black gear... so 80s.

Would like to get silver - or even gunmetal - as an alternative.

My audio room doubles as a home theater, so I prefer black to cut down on reflections from the screen.

Although gunmetal might be okay as a color, I think it would be too dark to be a good alternative to black. I was checking Wikipedia to see how dark gun metal is and came across a shades of grey chart at the bottom of the page that might help in this discussion: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gunmetal#Color

Looking at the chart, the following colors look to me like good alternatives to silver: plantium, ash grey, timberwolf, cadet grey and cool grey. For me, the key is that the color is somewhat light to allow you to easily read dark text/icons.

If only amps were offered in colors like guitars and cars, would the color be a tipping point in the decision?

It would probably depend on whether the color was available on demand or if you had to take the colors that were available.

I voted BLACK but that's just because all of my gear is black.

What looks best to me really depends on the component.

I've always wanted a Jadis. Love the look of the gold and silver.
If I could have any preamp or amp, based on looks alone, it would be a Jadis.
I prefer the earlier, simpler looking Jadis from the 1990's.

Conrad Johnson looks great in gold too.

It all depends on the brand.
The last bunch of Ayre products look incredibly good in black, so thats what I went with this time round.[IMG]
Not the best picture I'm afraid.
