Mike Nock Quartet ~ In Out and Around featuring Michael Brecker, George Mraz and Al Foster Timeless Muse Promo, 1979
I hope they'll release Miles in the Sky on SACD next. I never liked Jack Johnson very much, so I doubt I'll be getting that one, although... These MFSL SACDs sound fantastic. Hmm. We'll see
I wish I bought these for Goodwill prices Now on the TT! Blue Note 1588 Original Mono pressing. Nice!
I have to disagree on both Nude Ants and Eventyr. I love them both and also picked them up when first released. Nude Ants was actually my intro to Jarrett. I prefer some versions of the tracks on Nude Ants to the later live releases. I am glad to have them all though. Would be cool to have a "complete village vanguard" release from this lineup. As for Eventyr, I find it a rich and intoxicating listen.
I saw them yesterday in a tribute to Jan Johansson and Stan Getz. With a danish rhythm section - Jesper Lundgaard (b), Kristian Leth (d)
Miles Davis Sextet – Someday My Prince Will Come (Columbia/Legacy) — With John Coltrane, Hank Mobley, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers, Jimmy Cobb or Philly Joe Jones
I was listening to the Jazz Spectrum show one morning on Harvard University's WHRB-FM while driving to work, and they played a cut off "Miles In Tokyo," which I didn't have in my extensive Miles Collection. I had no idea that Sam Rivers had played in Miles' band, and this is the only document, so I immediately ordered a copy on Amazon. Miles was "correct" in eventually bringing in Wayne Shorter, of course, but this is some interesting "alternate reality" Miles.
IIRC there's actually another show. .. maybe Columbia will get around to legitimately releasing it one day.
My relative enthusiasm is dwindling fast, disc 2 has quite a few tracks that sound too commercial to my ears. I don't like it when big bands do stuff like that. The Gerald Wilson and Oliver Nelson Mosaics suffer from the same effects.
Sonny Rollins - Plus 4, Prestige 1956 with Sonny Rollins (ts), Clifford Brown (t), Richie Powell (p), George Morrow (b), Max Roach (d) Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab SACD This record made me think of an interview I read with Herb Geller. What an ***hole this guy was, bad-mouthing about former colleagues and other highly respected players as Max Roach, Art Pepper and Frank Butler. Here's the interview: http://www.jazzwax.com/2010/04/interview-herb-geller-part-4.html
