Yep, I've also noticed that music criticism in technopress is a different animal. Or cinema/film/movie criticism. Luckily they review neither fact nor fiction books...
Fi Magazine was the exception, while it was around. Mike Gray was their classical music editor, and there can't be many people at his level of knowledge when it comes to classical recordings.
I tried to Google some information on the magazine (didn't keep any back issues myself) but the search just returned lots of irrelevant hi-fi and sci-fi stuff. And yes, I would think the title of the magazine might cause a bit of puzzlement in Finland!
Just a heads up .... MDT is offering a bit of a discount on the forthcoming Richter box if anyone needs their arm twisted just a little ..... http://www.mdt.co.uk/richter-sviatoslav-the-100th-anniversary-edition-melodiya-50cds.html
I live in the country and today it is dead-quiet peaceful out here. No traffic, no landscapers, no backhoes. I don't have to be anywhere until 4:30 this afternoon, so in the meantime... Now listening to "O Cieco Mondo - The Italian Lauda C. 1400-1700" performed by the Huelgas Ensemble on DHM.
I have never been to your neck of the woods even though I worked in Joisey for almost ten years and lived there for one. My understanding is there are many horse farms in your area ...
Yes! Or, at least, to those who celebrate it, and a happy day to those abroad who don't. [Edit] Oh, and I should add: one of the things for which I'm most thankful is that George started this thread ages ago, giving all of us a chance to meet and make friends! From a musical perspective, in the wee hours of the morning I played the Beethoven 4th Sym. set by the Halle Orchestra under Sir Hamilton Harty, issued as part of Columbia's 1927 Beethoven bicentennial series. Interesting to hear so much portamento cropping up as a matter of course. Otherwise, a nice, spirited performance, although I thought the last mvt. could have been just a tad brisker.
Still sitting on the fence after all these years regarding the Hilliard Ensemble after having added a few titles by the group early on. I am still a bit neutral on the group though I definitely love the Tallis Scholars ...
