    I'll be waking up dark and early tomorrow morning (Thanksgiving 2015) for my 47th annual One-Song Side Show. It all started 47 Thanksgivings ago with Arlo Guthrie's side-long Thanksgiving-themed "Alice's Restaurant." Over the years, I have collected over 150 side-long epics and that's all I listen to every Thanksgiving. There's just an atmosphere about it. I usually get in about 20 of them in one Thanksgiving Day. As I posted last year, my rather arbitrary rules are:
    1. It must fill up one entire album side, no more and no less. Bob Dylan's "Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" (11:19) qualifies because it's on an album side to itself. Mountain's "Dream Sequence" (24:27) is disqualified because there's a 3:53 live version of "Mississippi Queen" squeezed onto the same tightly cut side with it. Thick as a Brick and Tubular Bells are disqualified because they each fill 2 sides. It's OK to listen to them on CD,downloads, or Youtube as long as they at one time filled one whole album side (on vinyl or cassette).
    2. Multi-layered suites with individually titled movements qualify as long as the whole suite has one collective title as well. Focus' "Hamburger Concerto" and Neil Diamond's "The African Trilogy" qualify for the 1-Song Side Show, but Side 2 of Abbey Road does not (no collective title).
    3. They must be album side length. 12-inch singles don't count.
    Please feel free to list (or post) some of your favorite side-long epics. I'll post this year's One-Song Side Show list on Friday.

    * In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
    * Echoes
    * Atom Heart Mother
    * Autobahn
    * Side 1 of 'Electric Cafe' (which was intended to be one giant song called 'Techno Pop' but later split up into three)
    * Paul Jabara's "Disco Wedding/Honeymoon/Divorce" suite (if you're feeling brave!)
    * Love To Love You Baby
    * Try Me (I Know We Can Make It)
    * MacArthur Park (Donna's version, obviously)

    How about either "Crises" or "Taurus II" by Mike Oldfield? They're not album-long tracks that are split between two sides like Tubular Bells or Hergest Ridge, they're just regular side long pieces.

    How cosmic! It is now 5:30 Thanksgiving morning and I'm listening to all of Tales From Topographic Oceans. I'm now in the middle of "The Revealing Science of God" with 3 more sides to go.
