I'm agree. I have gone through three different cd remasterings to this point. I think the only way they would get me to buy them again is if Steve remastered them or they came out on SACD.

How on earth did Keith Emerson publish a book without
me knowing about it? I just checked Amazon and it came out
in, what, 2003?! I've, obviously, never seen it in a bookstore.
Reviews seem to be mixed. I want to read it.

I suggest you order it from one of those Amazon buyers, the book is for all intents and purposes out of print. I've tried to order it a few times for customers, but I can't get them one. Publisher O/S and no Wholesaler has copies.

I certainly don't want to rain on anyone's (remastering) parade, but I'm a very happy (ELP) camper with a couple of MFSLs and a couple of Barry Diament originals. I really don't feel I'm missing out on much, not to mention the $$$ I can save by not buying the remasters ;)

I'm happy with the Joseph Palmaccio remasters and the Joe Gastwirt "Atlantic Years" set also sounds very good to me...

I did, they were very well done.

I doubt they'd really be related to the ELP remasters, though. The Alpert series was mastered by Bernie Grundman, who was Alpert's choice for the job, not someone who particularly works for Shout Factory. ELP or Shout Factory would likely choose someone else.

I own it. It's a good book if a little lean on discussion of the actual music he made. I saw it on Amazon.ca used for $11.71 Canadian. Cheap...

Castle/Sanctuary acquired the catalog in 2001. They used the same Victory mastering that Rhino also used.

I wonder if the Essential collection will have a similar tracklisting to The Atlantic Years - a perfect collection of ELP, IMO.

 I'm with you, IMO Diament did a great job and I don't need to search further. I made the mistake once I won't do it again.

"I guess we wont see any more ELP DVD-Audio discs.
The DVD-A of Brain Salad Surgery is brilliant"

Yes it was! I also liked the ELP bootlegs that (I believe) Rhino issued. Being a bootleg fan for many a year I really enjoyed those. Btw, when I speak of boots, it's live releases, not counterfits. One of my favorites is the Rolling Stones Winter Tour 1973. It is the only document of thier Nicaraguen Earthquake Benifit show. If you are a Mick Taylor fan this is a must have, as it was recorded on his side of the stage. I, being a Mick Taylor fan love it! LOL

Have you heard of the new 800 page book on ELP called The Endless Enigma? It's by Ed Macan the same guy who wrote "Rockin' the Classics". It's on my list to read next.

I just finished reading it. A scholarly, intelligent look at ELP and their music. Level-headed as well, no adulation, condemnation, or overstatement. The author obviously and admittedly likes ELP, but hit or miss, good or bad, he calls 'em like he sees 'em.

    Highly recommended.

Seems every time this happens with ELP, the contractually-bound parties trot out this stuff about 'the catalogue [finally] being treated with the respect it deserves' or whatever ... yeah, right.

I fully expect another set of indifferent masterings and "deluxe" repackagings of dubious value. :(

I'll be happy if proved wrong ...

Aren't they still in the middle of the last set of remasters? I guess that's done now, then...
