Look for great dialogue, extremely tense scenes, tough men and women. The longer, the better; won't be a single dull moment.

Really putting that 70mm to good use with all of the extended dialogue scenes taking place inside of a cabin.:righton:

I love most of Tarantino's work, this just doesn't seem to do it for me. I've watched the trailers a couple of times, and I keep hoping that it'll eventually 'click'. It still might!

I can't imagine that there wouldn't be some screenings in southern California. Notice that these are all northern California? I'm 99% sure this list is incomplete.

Just released Featurette on THE ROADSHOW / 70mm and more. VERY interesting IMHO.

After seeing the trailers, I think I agree. Nothing I've seen so far looks to justify the use of 65mm for shooting. It looks like a lot of the film takes place inside of a cabin. That doesn't exactly scream epic vista that must be seen in 70mm.

I hope New York and Philadelphia theaters are added so I can see it; L.A. too if they want to be eligible for the Oscars.

On the other hand: the trailers are fantastic, and I've generally enjoyed Tarantino's past films.

That's a good point. But I think The Master was not a good film and it lost a lot of money. I don't dispute that it got some good reviews, but I think it's a good concept that runs out of steam and has no real ending.

Far and Away...The Master..were these actually shot on 65mm stock or just blown up?

  20. I'm guessing it might get a nomination for cinematography, if nothing else.

The Master was absolutely shot on 65mm and screened in 70mm at select theaters. I saw it at the Grand Lake Theatre in Oakland, where Hateful Eight will also be screening in 70mm. PT Anderson just isn't much of a self-promoter compared to Tarantino, so I guess The Master is being forgotten.

Yep, saw The Master at the Cinerama Dome and there was some speculation in my mind as to what I was actually viewing.

The Master was indeed a very flawed film, I'll give you that, but the powerhouse performances turned in by Phoenix and Hoffman plus the beautiful cinematography save it, in my opinion.

I just don't understand how Hateful Eight is the "first true 70mm film in fifty years." The Master came out in 2012, a mere 3 years ago and I'm sure there's been a few others since 1965.

According to the Panavision short above, the lenses have not been used since the late 60's. Confused??

Maybe they mean "the first 2.66 widescreen Super-Panavision 70 Western in more than 50 years."
