Just a fun poll of metal bands that began in the 70's and 80's. Metal For Life

 

Not a huge metal fan tho I'm familiar with nearly everbuddy on the list but, when it comes to lists and Sabbath is on it? they're gonna get my vote most of the time. FWIW, and that's probably very little, Metallica would be # 2

 

I dig all of them to at least some extent, but from this admittedly limited list, my top picks are (in no particular order)...

Sabbath, Death, Dio, Priest, Motörhead, Ozzy, aaaaand....

I voted for Slayer, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Mercyful Fate, Iron Maiden and Dio. Probably should have voted for Metallica, Motorhead and Ozzy Osbourne as well. Other - Overkill would definitely get my vote.

I like early Celtic Frost, Megadeth and Anthrax a lot as well. Also, the debuts by Exodus and Suicidal Tendencies are excellent but I never connected with anything else by them.

 

Ratt. Unless you don't consider them metal, in which case I'd go with Megadeth.

 

Candlemass is on my list. Nightfall is one of the best metal albums of all time.

My own personal favorite version'd actually be Acid King's - a completely different take on the song, almost made specifically to my (musical) preferences.... It's maybe a little ironic, as it's so slow, but I dig it the most.

 

And just the way I like my coffee.

 

There's a genre of Metal called "Cream & Two Sugars Metal"?

I wouldn't call Motorhead metal, but one of my favorites and I voted for them anyway.

I thought the same except maybe Celtic Frost. I could never get into them.

 

I voted for Motorhead, the only heavy metal band I like unless you also count Girlschool.

 

Celtic Frost is a difficult band for sure. I'd recommend highly anything from "Morbid Tales" to "Into the Pandemonium" but the stuff after that pretty much sucks until you get to "Monotheist" which was an awesome comeback album.

However, maybe they're just not for you. Pretty limited in terms of musicianship and Warrior's death grunt can get old.

 

Sabbath, Ozzy, Maiden, Priest, Rainbow, Scorpions, UFO

 

Yes, started with Morbid Tales. I read where many called it their best. I just am not a fan. I can deal with some of the death grunts/growling. I love Opeth.
