30 years ago (8/20/83) - James Brown, Michael Jackson and Prince on the same stage

I hadn't seen this video footage before; it was posted at the bottom of blog post on the New Yorker's website (see below). Pretty fun stuff. Despite the poor video and audio, Brown's band sounds great.

That's so cool! I just saw that a few years ago when someone posted it here in another thread.

 

Man, Prince was one weird dude. Did he and MJ interact at all? I couldn't tell. I don't think Michael liked him all that much, though.

 

Prince claims that MJ and his team approached him for a feature on "Bad" (It was intended to be a duet) but Prince turned it down because of the line "Your butt is mine".
Prince has written and sung many lyrics that were far more questionable then the opening line of Bad. I doubt MJ contacted him for a collaboration.

 

So you think Prince made it up?

I have a recollection of MJ at some point saying he wasn't all that crazy about Prince's music. I could be wrong...

MJ was very competitive with Prince from what I have read. That was really his only competition in the 80's.

I'm sure MJ had more important things to do during that period of time.

Like putting together the most anticipated album of all time.

Seems like Michael left the stage when Prince was called up.

 

I don't recall MJ confirming or denying this.
I have heard Prince mention it a few times.
