I found the specs. It is a 3" midrange driver that covers the range from 300 Hz to 4000 Hz. I would not have suspected it for a midrange driver.

Raven Audio Nighthawk MKII tube amplifier.

It's in a league of its own and untouched at its price point. Run that into Quads (and I do) or Falcon LS3/5a's (I do that too) and the midrange is UNCANNY.

I heard a D70 mkII on Spendor LS3/5a's 30 years ago. I still remember how good that combination was.

Klipsch Heresy. Had too much midrange until I put some acoustic insulation in the horns. That took care of it.

Funny, I used to run mine with a pair of original HLP3s, great as well.

Yup, the SP10 was one of the sweetest sounding of all time, lots of good stuff from ARC back then.

Not much wrong with there new stuff either.

I would like to add smoothness. For me the magic is when you can combine the two.

I guess I could have started this thread by asking "do you believe in magic".

Is this a term that should be used when our systems influence us in a mysterious yet supernatural way. Or is this an adjective used by the industry to sell products ?

I would have to agree with you on ss amps.
I will be the first to say I am an avid two channel music lover and by no means able to keep up with a lot of you guys on the tech talk about speakers ,amps and the like.
I will say I know what I like, with mac's ,pioneers , kenwoods dynaco st70's, heath kit w4m's, and w5m's and fisher tube amps also Marantz , forgot that one, my most cherished receiver for pure listening pleasure is a Kenwood model 11, yes the plain jane model 11.
I have never been a pack follower and do not mind speaking up and sharing my opinion, I bought it off of ebay ,I have never touched the insides and I do not know if anyone else has.
Maybe some mad ss receiver master mind did his magic on it, who knows.
I have had it paired to khorns, bozaks symphonies, altec vott, dynaco a25's,wharfedale's , and a pile more,it just has a sweet smooth sound for what ever music you put thru it.
I love the tubes ,but the reliability and ruggedness and above all the great sound of the model 11 is a wonderful combination.
At 59 and my hearing is still pretty good, I have been backed up by having some friends actually tear up listening to the combination of great speakers, music and receiver all coming together.

You should get the Paradigm Mini Monitor V7. They sound incredible. My favorite speaker for the money.

I'll watch out for them but right now I have more speakers than I know what to do with. I even have a set up in the garage with a low powered Sansui amp. Have to get a shelf or something.

I have a pair of Mini Monitor V7 driven by a Pioneer 501 integrated in my small office system. The system is so musical that it competes with my several thousand dollar system in my listening room. I would recommend Paradigm to anyone starting out or wanting to upgrade, IMO they are so good that they might not upgrade further. The Pioneer 501 amp is a fantastic bargain too. The sound quality will compete with any amp under 2 grand. You can get one from here (see link) for $399. Paired with the Paradigm's; a person can own a great system for under $850.
