I have heard of Bad English ( with ex-members of The Babys) but never of a band called Broken English .
I guess kouzie's Savage Garden makes more sense than Soundgarden (my initial suggestion)

Broken English covered the Zombies 1965 hit, "She's Not There" as "She No Here."

The five I had in mind were:
    Broken English
    Dire Straits
    Twisted Sister
    Savage Garden
    Smashing Pumpkins…

…though Bad English (who I'll admit I'd never heard of) and Swing Out Sister work equally well. 'Dire' Straits and 'Savage' Garden are the ones I'd have to say are somewhat contrived (well, they all are, really!), but as I said above, no more so than the kind of thing you might see in The Times cryptic crossword any day.

I'll take an early guess at the nine-letter word that's formed by arranging all the answers into an acrostic.

    BUZZCOCKS.

    Do I win a car?

There isn't one of those. But now that you mention it… ;)
