For me, the best version on CD.

I love my copy. Barry Diament mastering I believe.

Yep. That is correct. Barry did all of the original CDs except for IV.

This one and original 80s IV are my favorite Zep on CD, all things considered. Zep I has that late 60s psychedelic compression baked into the mix, which is really cool, but not really audiophile. II is way too hot. And then anything after IV just isn't quite classic Zep, even though most of it is really good.

For me, still the most crankable digital version.

    Thank you Mr Diament :)

I wholeheartedly disagree. Perhaps after Physical Graffiti, but not after IV.

Man, I love Physical Graffiti! And Presence! But something got lost after IV, IMO. I've always felt this way, and the feeling was reinforced when I read Hammer of the Gods recently. But who's arguing? Not me. Best effing discography ever.

Ugh... I just listened to III again though. It doesn't sound as good as I remembered. Too hot! And Zep I sounds better than I remembered. IV and PG sound fantastic. These are the 80s Diament /Sidore versions I'm talking about, BTW. (And when I say that II and III are too hot, it sounds like the mix to me, not the mastering)
