I was there when Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers and The Electric Co. premiered. "There" meaning in front of a black and white RCA tv set with rabbit ears. I preferred the Electric Co. because I liked the music better. And it just seemed smarter in some way. And by the way, isn't that one of the richest men in Hollywood standing on the far right?

This is a blast from my childhood past (70s/80s). There are a couple things posted here I'm not familiar with but most of it I remember after forgetting about it 3 decades ago.

I used to watch this all the time back in the late 80s. Very relaxing show. I used to nod off. Do you know what year the theme song was done?

Does anyone remember the Curious George show that was basically a narration of the storybooks that ran on PBS in the 1980's? It had a great folksy theme song.

Despite the cheese factor, I've always loved this and the Jack Horkheimer interjections. I could do without the unicorn in the viddy to be sure.

I'm not 100% certain about this but I think New York City's PBS station WNET did either the same thing with Singalong or another Beatles related piece as bumper/between show music. I know that I heard "Flying" from MMT used that way but don't remember if it was WNET or some other station. Same thing about Hot as Sun from McCartney.

Indeed it is. (Don't mention "The Electric Company" to him though, it's a VERY sore subject! :p)

Not to mention (and I regret doing so), Mr. Puddin' Pop towards the left - who I believe co-created the show.

Oh yeah - that was the later version of the opening titles. I always noticed that you could see Alexandra at 1:20, after she had left the show. :) (Some other girl had replaced her as the right-hand host.)

The theme song seems to be 1981 or thereabouts.

In 1974 around the time I graduated from high school I used to watch a lot of my local PBS station KVIE (especially Sesame Street and Bob Ross the painter, also Lilias the yoga lady). In between shows they sometimes played this fascinating instrumental that I really
liked-my ears would perk up every time it came on. I thought it at the time that it was the stations' generic segue music.

About a year later I happened to buy Pink Floyd's "Ummagumma" which was my second Floyd album after "A Nice Pair". The first time I played David Gilmour's "The Narrow Way" my jaw dropped...it was the music I'd heard on PBS! I remember thinking , Wow, those guys were cool...playing Pink Floyd all this time and I never even realized it.

I remember when "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy" ran on my local PBS station in 1982-83. It was my first exposure to the Eagles! (no, not really, but to that one song of theirs, yes).

    LOL!

    Yes.

They had to change the lyrics in order to make it kid friendly.
