I remember back then there were rappers named Lil Zayn, and Lil Malik. Is this dude a descendant of these two?

IIRC he pulled a Bill Wyman when he left and said that they should have stopped a long time ago without acknowledging that he could have tried doing that. I've yet to find a song of theirs that doesn't enrage me for one reason or another (whoever "writes" their music for them better not find more music I like), but watching the fans who shunned him for leaving and the fans who stuck with him gore each other (undoubtedly, quite literally) should make for some great entertainment, for a while.

Yeah, he's received lots of backlash but lots of support as well which is great.

You can laugh if you like, but this is a great pop album and he's got a fine soulful voice. Plus I think he's hot as hell!

The 13YO offspring was a 1D fangirl supreme for many years, has been moving on, but loves the new Zayn single. 1D was an important piece of her emerging love of music, so I have nothing but best wishes for them all.

I haven't heard his album, but I agree that he's hot. I never understood how/why Harry Styles became the supposed heartthrob of One Direction.

Yes, they did focus on Harry when Zayn has the superior voice. The one thing they have in common is some of the ugliest, cheapest-looking tattoos I've ever seen.

He seems to be singing in that 'can't really be bothered to open my mouth properly' style of Justin Bieber. I struggle to make out anything he says on his solo material.

I guess people hear things differently, since I don't have a problem understanding him (or Justin) at all.

Zayn Malik. Not much of a singer, but a godsend for those of us who play Scrabble.

Lots of tacky girl screaming on his Tonight Show appearance.

We never had tacky girl screaming back when the Beatles were a boy band.

That's funny although he's actually got impressive vocal range. Far and away, he was the best singer in One Direction.

For what it's worth, many of the songs on the album were produced by Malay, the producer of the bulk of Frank Ocean's 'Channel Orange'. That record is starting to bear fruit through this generation of singers.

How so? Because a song you don't like/know is No. 1? Because that would seem, you know, very self-absorbed. The world does not revolve around you or your tastes, and people (lots of them) like things you don't. That's the way of the world. :) I fail to see how Zayn Malik being No. 1 is 'proof' of anything, to be honest.
