Sultana was a Mississippi River side-wheel steamboat. On April 27, 1865, the boat exploded in the greatest maritime disaster in United States history. An estimated 1,800 of her 2,427 passengers died when three of the boat's four boilers exploded and she burned to the waterline and sank near Memphis, Tennessee.[1] This disaster has long been overshadowed in the press by other contemporary events; John Wilkes Booth, President Lincoln's assassin, was killed the day before. ~Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sultana_(steamboat)

Madeline Leman & The Desert Swells. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wp2eHiefMOQ ''Madeline Leman and the Desert Swells create an Americana retro surf sound that is both silky smooth and a little bit country kitsch. Influenced by the rock n’ roll, blues, surf and soul traditions Madeline and her band create a fresh sound that transcends the country genre. Influenced by Patsy Cline, Hank Williams and Eilen Jewell, Madeline captivates audiences with stories of strong female protagonists, cowboys and truck drivers who ramble their way through the mundane and the profound.''
You can hear her debut EP on the link below, she's someone i'll be paying close attention to in the future. https://madelineleman.bandcamp.com/releases

Amy Helm is the real deal! Being the daughter of Americana royalty doesn't hurt her street cred, either.
Heh, I was JUST listening to this performance on NPR a few days ago: http://www.npr.org/2015/07/24/425967624/folk-alley-presents-amy-helm-the-handsome-strangers I'm a huge Americana fan, plus a YouTube junkie... weighing the pros and cons of trying to make it through all 1,000 posts on this thread.
AleYeah, I would say the first 10 pages would be worth it. You might also want to check out this thread: http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/50-americana-altcountry-songs-i-want-everyone-to-hear.450027/
Check out this amazing 2016 release. The artists hail from Mn and Iowa, (the post-production work was done in St. Paul), and have a complex sonic vibe that takes me to Dylan's lyrics and vocals, Enya's soundscapes, Mark Knopfler's guitar work, yet remains definitely Americana. The album art is striking IMO. It'll take quite an effort to move this one from #1 for me anytime soon. Lucinda's Ghosts of Highway 20 is up there, too. Randy-check this out. Hello to all my friends....haven't connected much lately-my fault. Hope everyone's doin' as great as possible.... GT
