Dan Fogelberg was indeed under-valued. I still cry when I listen to "Old Lang Syne" as it painfully reminds me of a special lady I once knew in my life and who I miss so very much.

You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it :tiphat:. I think we'll eventually get some sort of rarities compilation. :)

I really like his cover of Don't Lose Heart, a song I've come to love more and more since I first heard on the 1997 box set, so I look forward to hearing his version of Run For The Roses.

That's right, I completely forgot about Dan's cover of Woodstock. Thanks!

Drawing Pictures is a song that Dan recorded for his 2003 album Full Circle, but he wrote it, when he was just 21. I'd really like to hear the original version.

    Dan Fogelberg:
"This is very mature stuff by someone who at the time (age 21) had never been in a serious relationship. I do find the song just as relevant now, as when it was written. I wrote it in '72 or '73, probably. I always loved Drawing Pictures. It was one of those songs that kept getting pushed aside. Irving Azoff, my manager at the time, used to love it and would say: "You've got to put this on that album". But for one reason or another through the years, I didn't."

I wrote about this song in an earlier post. It was written by Dan, but never released by anyone but Florence Warner.
This is one Dan Fogelberg song I need to hear as it was performed and recorded by himself. I can so hear him singing this haunting Folk ballad.

You'll have to click on the YouTube logo to hear it.

Rare gems! I was familiar with Ivy Twines and I Was Never Much, but not the others. Many thanks V&V!

Another great find… I have Fogelberg's early recording of Drawing Pictures from a 1971 Red Herring album, and did find a couple of the others in bootlegs called The Basement Tapes and The Early Years, but still, you've shed light on even more rarities! Am traveling right now, but will try to share a couple of others next week...

Skip to 14:32 and you'll hear I Will Run, yet another unreleased song. This one sounds very much like early Poco.

Dan also did a live cover of the Eagles' The Best Of My Love before they even released it.

Ralph, thanks for mentioning Tori Amos' cover of Dan's Song From Half Mountain. I never ever would've expected Tori to do a cover version of a Dan Fogelberg song. I think he would've been proud of her interpretation. Extremely beautiful.

I knew nothing of these songs.
Seems to me a rarities box is in order!

Once In Love, from Dan's 2003 album Full Circle, was originally recorded during The Innocent Age sessions. I'd like to hear the original version of this ballad -- with Dan's more youthful, less weary singing voice.

Wow… Breathtaking… Volt, thanks for finding and posting this… amazing… I had never heard it, only read about it, and never was able to find it.

The Jackson MS show on 2-22-74 is apparently on YouTube. I have part 2 downloaded from somewhere. It was recorded as a radio broadcast. For a little treat, here's a link to a Mississippi blogger who was there; check out his memories, and some of the comments are really touching, especially about someone asking Dan to dedicate a song to a friend who had just died in a motorcycle accident… fle-pics (and fle-thoughts): Dan Fogelberg in Jackson, MS (1974) »

I guess I should add that I really enjoy sharing, and I'm too lazy to do dozens of YouTube vids. Besides, this is a special little group here! :)

More to come -- got to get some rest now… Good to be back… Enjoy!
