(for some mysterious indiscernible reason) is "Taken In",
the closing track from Mike + The Mechanics' debut. Odd.

I love reading the responses to threads like this. It both flags albums I haven't listened to in a while for immediate consideration and reminds me how much craft went in to some of my favorites. :D

One I haven't seen mentioned is "Like Suicide" from Soundgarden's Superunknown album. If that's not a great closer, I don't know what is. Nothing torqued me off more than when they started tacking on "She Likes Surprises" on more recent editions of the record. One of the few times I can say that tacking on extra music actively diminished the flow of an album.

The original European edition of the album always ended with Surprises, but you are right; it doesn't really fit.

I had no idea there was an alternate track order. It makes it less infuriating that the newer versions end like that, but man that song really doesn't work in that placement!

It might even be a fine song on its own, but it feels like a clunker coming after such a great piece of writing and performance. A change in the running order may be the only merciful thing to do!
