How does the '95 Ted Jensen remaster compare to the 2003 George Marino? I know the 2003 is compressed and a little bright but it does have more clarity and detail than my UK A1/B1 Porky vinyl. The vinyl has a great bass thump to it though, awesome for AC/DC!

I have the '03 Marino remaster. A lot more compressed than I would like it to be, but the details in the guitars and especially the drums trump most other versions I've heard. I wish they would all be remastered again, taking the details that Marino brought out, but without the compression. I have the 1995 Jensen remaster of Back In Black and it sounds weedy and weak, while still peaking almost constantly.

For this album, I would try to find the Australian for Australian version. I believe the number is 465256 2 on the Albert label.

Just realised the the first remaster was actually released in 1994. The US/Europe releases state George Marino remastered them whearas the Australia '95 quotes Ted Jensen???

Like many, I'd love a CD issue of the UK track list with Crabsody In Blue instead of Problem Child. It's annoying that Problem Child is also on Dirty Deeds when Crabsody is on no AC/DC original album CD. It's the same with Cold Hearted Man on Powerage. An extended Jailbreak '74 would be good, gathering the stray B on era tracks.

I agree, the changes you listed are annoying. At least all the songs you listed are available on the Backtracks box set.

True, it's just me. I tend not to buy box sets and the ones I have (including Byrds, Hendrix, Who, Ray Charles, Atlantic R&B) get unfairly neglected even though they are great. I much prefer listening to albums and 45s.

Well, if you find it for a good price, I recommend getting it. It is a great box set.

I wish the entire Bon era would be issued in a box set with the as-the-band intended Aussie/original versions:

    High Voltage (Aussie track listing/cover)
    TNT (Aussie track listing)
Dirty Deeds (Aussie track listing/cover) w/Love At First Feel single
Let There Be Rock (Aussie track listing)
Powerage ( EU mix/track listing with Cold Hearted Man and Aussie track listing)
If You Want Blood, You've Got It *How about a remix of the full gig for this one, plus the original album.
Highway To Hell (no track list variants, use the Aussie cover)

    B-sides:
    Fling Thing
    Carry Me Home
Dog Eat Dog (live at Glasgow)

    and anything else I forgot.

A recommendation to all AC/DC fans. Tonight at 22:00 (British time) on BBC4 - 'The Easybeats to AC/DC - The Story of Aussie Rock'. Should be good.

^This, and if they ever did they should get either Steve Hoffman or Barry Diament to do the masterings using the original master tapes, that would be a dream come true for me.

Since I can't edit my previous post apologies for the double post, that being said, it's worth noting that the original Australian Albert. Catalog#465256 2 LTBR CD (which is a pre remasterers era CD) has Crabsody in Blue as well, so if the Japan for Aus. catalog #CDP 7466662 has issues that hinder the experience for you Man at C&A you could give the Australian Albert. Catalog#465256 2 a try and see if it's any better, they're both completely different masterings, so you have some options choose from to get what you feel is best for you.

Don't waste your time or money. There is no good mastering of this album on CD. The original US Atco CD is painfully bright, compressed, and sounds like they added echo to "Go Down". The other CDs with the Australian track listing are all hard-limited. A lot of them don't have the full version of "Go Down" either, which makes them useless.

The CDs do have more detail than the UK/US porky vinyl masterings tho, it's not just added treble and compression. The 1994 remaster is a good compromise and i think it has the full ending of Go Down. The UK porky vinyl is special tho. Has real slam to it. You lose the warmth and punch with the CDs tho at the expense of better detail. US and UK porky vinyl masterings are different.

If you like the 2003, without the compression, i would recommend hunting down a Japan Albert. I think they share a lot of the same DNA. It's more noticeable if you compare the 2003 vinyl to the Albert as they have a similar DR. Here's some samples of the LTBR Japan Albert:

I have a rip of the Australian first pressing and it sounds quite good to me. How does it compare to the porky masterings?

UK porky has more bass slam which makes the drums sound awesome. More impact to the music. The US porky is quite similar to the Australian albert vinyl.

AC/DC must sound dirty. Please no audiophile mastering for them.
