I'm glad to see the hype around this album. I'm excited but realistic about the final outcome. I'm so glad they are doing it. However, articles like that one and the unknown make me wonder a bit-- are they releasing too much information too fast? I mean, from what we know THE ALBUM HASN'T EVEN BEEN RECORDED YET. I just don't want to see it blow up. But maybe that's just Noel... he's never happy much about.
This is just for fun using the Accapella App Verse two of the Door into Summer http://mixcord.co/acapella/p/5rsH9vB3xhUC0Yejovsjqg/
It's now available for pre-order on iTunes for $9.99. It lists 12 tracks by the name track 01, track 02, etc., and a release date of June 10th. I think this is unprecedented.
Hmm...Well to my knowledge the 70s are the only era without a full Monkees tour or new record (or both.) D,J,B & H don't count IMO. Was the actual monicker of the Monkees ever actually used in the 70s (Changes doesn't count)? Was in the 60's, 80's, 90s etc.
Everybody is entitled to their own opinion and musical taste but Admiral Mike was one of my favorite cuts on Justus. The subject matter had some real serious bite and grim. I think the most overlooked track was Unlucky Stars. It could almost fit on an Americana playlist. It's the most Headquarters-like track to my ears.
That's what I've heard too - 70's are first generation still, because the show merely went to Saturday morning in reruns straight from the primetime first-run.
Second generation is generally mid-80's because of the exposure from MTV, and the 20th anniversary tour that happened to be going on at the same time. So you'd be first yet I'd say...nobody knew what was to come(!), that they'd gain a slew of new fans who weren't there from the 60's. I myself was a fan from 67 - 70, and long by this point in time I have taken their theme song to be as true as can be. Lol "Any time or anywhere, just look over your shoulder, and we'll be standing there.............. So you better get ready, we're maybe coming to your town."
I think the occasional toughness in Justus is what appealed to me. I recall having my brother fooled when I played him the Justus version of "Circle Sky" and told him it was a new Black Sabbath record. He was impressed - but more impressed to find it was actually The Monkees.
With all of these archived song choices and new song offers, wonder if we'll get a standard album and a deluxe version like artist often do now. Loving all this hype!
I discovered them on Sat AM so sneaked into first gen I guess. Got their first 3 albums in the 70s. Got the rest when reissued on Rhino in the 80s.
Rhino sent out on e-mail this morning about the Soundcheck VIP package - Ticket in the first 10 rows Soundcheck access with The Monkees with exclusive deep cuts & fan favorites not included in the normal set list This could be interesting.
Not the biggest Monkee fan, but, I CAN'T WAIT to hear a new song from ANDY PARTRIDGE!!!!! THIS news is putting the BIGGEST SMILE on my face!
I like that you're at least a fan! They are saying it's going to be the first single and it sounds fantastic! Could be out as soon too! Andy's tweets have been great Spent most of the day demoing a song called LOVE'S WHAT I WANT FOR US ALL Andrew Sandoval's response: I think Love's What I Want maybe the most Monkeesque of them all! Note - not even sure this cut will even be recorded for the album He's written multiple songs. "Sorry Micky, I can't stop writing you fella's songs. Another one coming over tomorrow, maybe two? The Monkees gave me SO MUCH joy as a kid, it's all I can do to repay it. They are liking 3 of my tunes so far, and I hope they dig the latest?
