I've listened to Blackstar quite a few times now and I love some of the songs but as a whole it's not a great listen to me. Big Bowie fan and sentimentally he deserves high props for this album but enjoying Sia's album a lot more.

Same with me. I find it difficult to listen to.

Gripest and demurreth tho' thou mayest, Blackstar★ will top or at the very least be in the top five for 2016, and that's with zero bonus sympathy points for the attention-seeking behavior of, you know, dying.

Though it would be a shame to ignore so many other records worthy of attention demurreth upon your plea for Blackstar.

I'm still trying to catch up on 2015 albums so I've not got many 2016s yet, but the answers so far are:

    Steven Wilson: 4 1/2
    St. Lucia: Matter

    First post here. Hello!

Mantra Vega "The Illusion's Reckoning" is my favourite of the year so far. Blackstar is not far behind.

Sorry for enjoying all types of music. You're right, I should make yet another thread about The Beatles and fall in line with everyone else.

I still have a few potential contenders I haven't heard yet (Rangda, Aluk Todolo, Chthe'ilist, Field Music), but of what I've heard so far:

    David Bowie - Blackstar
    Lycus - Chasms
    Oranssi Pazuzu - Varahtelija
DIIV - Is The Is Are

    also pretty good:
    Witchcraft - Nucleus
    Abbath - Abbath
Night Beats - Who Sold My Generation?
    Eleanor Friedberger - New View

I'm enjoying this little baroque pop record, sorta heartfelt joyous infectious "indy pop" , even a David Bowie cover of "Heroes", which is sweet. One other tune is so short and sweet, coulda been on Low...lol. Interesting sampled electronics sprinkled over lush strings and harmonies and fun quirky 3 minute tunes.

I hear it a lot when I stream KEXP

Honourable mention to the new Lucinda Williams.

We've got new Bonnie Raitt and P J Harvey releases coming out soon.

I hope for a new U2 album this year but somehow I doubt it...

 Whatever you may think of it, it is the clearly the finest farewell album in the history of Rock and Roll.
