Chris's Noboby To Blame is played on mainstream country radio.

Kacey Musgraves is also more embraced by Americana/alternative radio than country radio as well.

With a lot of today's "Country artists" the only thing that makes them country is a cowboy hat. So you say there is now "Bro Country"?!? Wearing a backwards baseball cap, do they do a rap in the middle of the song?

Yes they do and many have tattoos to the degree that they look like metal artists. This is the style defined by Sam Hunt, Florida-Georgia Line, Brantley Gilbert, Cole Swindell, etc.

Maddie and Tae's most famous song and debut hit is this song that is essentially an answer to this trend:

I blame Tim McGraw. :) Makes me want to turn it off over and over again.

Michael, here's one of the definitive songs of the bro-country trend:

I don't really listen to the "top 20" country of today but I have heard a lot of it via some friends who are always playing it. I was at one friend's place a few weeks ago and he had his rotation of popular country Youtube videos on and I heard this:

I'm no expert but I'm not sure in which parallel universe that could be called "country".

That is a bro-country song, BTW.

So... Electro-Country is termed Bro Brad? The 'Bro' term seems derived from inner city slang, so it's more of a hip-hop description?
I'm just trying to understand some of these sub genres

Yes, that is part of the bro-country trend, just as much as "Dirt Road Anthem."

I had heard that term before but hadn't realized it was actually a labelled genre/sub-genre. But it makes sense now. You learn something new every day.

Still, I see/hear much more of the "bro" and and far less of the "country" in it.

Listen for a fellow named John Crabtree.
He is a bit of a return to real country music.
He isn't the typical "all hat and no cattle" country costume kind of guy.

Had to look it up and found this on the Wikipedia entry for "bro-country":

Zac Brown described Luke Bryan’s "That's My Kind of Night" as the worst song he had ever heard, to which Jason Aldean replied, "nobody gives a **** what u think."[7] Jason Aldean also called the term bro-country ridiculous, and was bothered to be labeled as such because he didn't "feel like it's a compliment," that "it's sort of a backhanded thing that comes from a very narrow-minded listener".[23]

So seems Jason Aldean doesn't like the label "bro-country". Unless he has another genre label in mind I am not sure how he could expect it to be called straight "country".

I have no issue with crossover artists and/or artists spreading their wings and dabbling in other forms of music. But at some point new genre/sub-genre labels will have to be applied otherwise the original ones become meaningless. That's why there are so many of them nowadays.

Bro-country? That's cute. As in the brother of country music? Better check that DNA.
