Just got to see the "Tall Texan" perform in March and he still sounds great.

'Loversville' by Wynn Stewart. Notice the unique pedal steel work by Ralph Mooney, who later joined Waylon Jennings' band.

Bit left-field but Terry Allen's Lubbock on Everything is a work of genius. I love this song The Girl Who Danced Oklahoma. "She was nekkid and sitting in this chair that came from France", song writing doesn't come any better than this LP. Ok LA...

One of my favourite singers, such a rich, warm voice and an exquisitely crafted tune superbly executed. Note Albert Lee on guitar too - Summer Wages by Ian Tyson from what I consider his best LP, Cowboyography.

In 1930, Jimmie Rodgers, "The Singing Brakeman," recorded "Blue Yodel #9" with none other than Louis Armstrong on trumpet. Forty years later, Johnny Cash and Armstrong re-created that historic recording on The Johnny Cash Show less than a year before Satchmo died.

Apparently live footage of Speedy West and Jimmy Bryant is rare

Definitely. Ian is an incredible songwriter and performer. I haven't gotten to see him since his vocal cord surgery, which apparently has given him more range than he's had in years. Supposedly Ian used the same doctor which treated Adele for her vocal cord surgery.

"Yellowhead To Yellowstone" was recorded during Ian's period of diminished vocals, but as a longtime fan, I never saw it as a problem and enjoy that disc and "Raven Singer" just the same as any of his modern works.

The fact there still is no Dave Dudley comprehensive Bear Family box set is both frustrating and saddening.

Since I've been listening to Loretta Lynn's new album lately, I guess I should post her too. She recorded enough songs for several albums, similar to what Johnny Cash did with the American albums.
