A favorite of mine: JC at the Village Vanguard (but I've said this before, I'm sure, and more than once, probably): Coltrane, Dolphy, Tyner, Garrison,Workman, Jones... Really. Who could ask for anything more? (But that's another song entirely. On another planet, even. ) This box set is essential (as 99% of you know already):
One I don't listen to very often, because the beginning has got a strange Austin Powers vibe to my delicate ears (but it gets better): On the album of the same name, which you can see in the clip. (Hi, Joe H., my man!) Lee has recorded better albums that this, in my very humble opinion.
Stop working then. This is some funky stuff. I wish there were extended tracks of these without narration.
De rien, Jacline! He has quite an eclectic career as trumpet player and composer of movie soundtracks. To check out his tone on trumpet, I recommend this album of awesomeness: Mark Isham/Art Lande - We Begin (1987) ECM 1338 - recorded January 1987 at Rainbow Studio, Oslo
(LP Impulse! ABC ASD-9286) - early foray into large scale ensemble writing by Sam Rivers from 1974 .... this is beautiful and exciting music .... special mention goes to Jon Daley (tuba) + Greg Maker (b) + Warren Smith (dr) for their affirmative playing end-to-end ....
Eric Dolphy - Out There... Ron Carter (b, chl) George Duvivier (b) Roy Haynes (d) Title track and "Sketch of Melba" (a Randy Weston composition) blow me away every time.
Thank you. I've know him since his salad days (very early Windham Hill). I was so New Age, then. Disgusting.
I have to listen to this album. Don't know it at all. Hello and how's life treatin' ya on this Friday, jiffypop?
Let me guess (and you won't be sorry, because I'm a very smart and clever--some might say brilliant--woman): this is a boot, right? Calling all JC experts? I just stumbled upon this clip. I'm crazy about it. McCoy is the best. And, of course, JC himself... No words left to describe my passion for the man's music in those years.
Excellent Tram, here (and Bix B., and Jimmy Dorsey): That jazz period is not for everybody, and especially not an everyday thing, now, I think. But once in awhile... (And, look: I'm alone in here right now, so I can do whatever the heck I want.)
This is a radio broadcast featuring an amazing 42 minute version of "Hornets". Excellent sound quality! Life is all good until two kidney stones send yo azz to the hospital! I have never experienced such pain as last night but I'm doin okay today. Getting old ain't no fun sista!
