I have a *very* long list of complaints about this film. And a very small percentage of them is fanboy wanking. This is film-making at it's absolute worst, and is an affront to anybody who loves these characters, the world they inhabit, or consistent storytelling.

This movie is so bad I can't believe Michael Bay didn't have anything to do with it.

Gave my review/opinion in the main thread about the movie, as did most others.

Most folk I know seen it were less than impressed. Wonder Woman in it seemed to get the thumbs~up.

I think it's pretty big mess of a movie with too many problems to mention, but I really like Ben Affleck as Batman.

And, yes, Wonder Woman is freakin' badass.

If I were to guess based on the long thread (which I have read, very informative about the movie, far more information than a poll will provide) this poll you will have about 75% negative responses.

  12. I enjoyed it the main flaw was cramming too many plot points into, the movie and some contrived methods to push the story forward. I enjoyed it though and think, as much of a mess as it is, I continue to hope these movies do well so that we can see more.

The main flaw of BvS is that it served four functions 1) the reintroduction of Batman in universe with Superman 2) their conflict 3) using the resolution from The Death of Superman (and part ofthe plot) for the film and 4) a prequel to Justice League.

The intention was to launch the DC universe and they accomplished that flaws and all so now we can movie foreword but it's still a mess of a movie. They felt pressure to do so mor rapidly after so many corporate misfires with the characters that resulted in cancelled films (the Nic Cage Death of Superman is hilraious from what I've read).

I have nothing against the critics, but I think they are wrong this time.

It's s big heaping mess of delight, emphasis on mess.

    But, hey that's Snyder's MO!

It was a million times better than Man Of Steel, which did indeed turn it's back on everything that made Superman what he was.

BVS is mainly a Batman movie, with Superman mainly seen from afar, or in Bruce Wayne's nightmares, and I thought that worked quite well.

Gal Gadot is of course a sensation!

It was pretty weak, as far as Marvel films go. I felt like the premise got a bit more ridiculous than average at some points.

  16. I don't want to give away too much for those who've yet to see it (such as those waiting for the R-rated Ultimate Cut), but I could literally feel my heart sinking when Scoot McNairy's character reached the end of his miserable story arc - the first time you see him should have warned me this wouldn't be just another typical superhero film intended for a family audience, though I'm disgusted that Zack Snyder thought having an actual
    suicide bomber
in this movie was tasteful, especially after Man of Steel was rightly slammed for containing imagery that made 9/11 look like a warm-up to his own "disaster pornography" spectacular! At least the upcoming Suicide Squad looks as if it's going to have a sense of humour about itself, while I predict Justice League will end up being more of the same bleak, cynical and totally unnecessary negativity. Superman? This version of the once iconic comic book figure hardly seemed super in my opinion, and his values even make him questionable as a man. Give me the worst of the Christopher Reeve series over this any day of the week...

Oh, much better than Age of Ultron, by far, the worst superhero movie I've ever seen. I can't say that I liked Batman V. Superman, but I didn't hate it.

Don't be so vague, did you like the movie or not?

  20. I voted to show that I hate it, which is something I rarely say about anything, but I still can't believe that anyone thought this film (along with its predecessor, for that matter) was a good idea. The world's already cynical enough right now, and it would have been amazing if Zack Snyder had given us a modern update of Superman while introducing an older version of Christopher Nolan's take on Batman into the same universe. Instead, he's addressed none of the issues that Man of Steel presented, making his "Superman" even less relatable than in his previous movie, ramping up the negative elements and throwing in everything - literally including a sink! - while reducing several major DC figures to blink-and-you-miss-them cameo roles. Sure, retooling the second film in this series to become a setup for the Justice League probably seemed like a good idea on paper, yet in reality I found it lacking heart, with countless explosions and a truly terrible way of setting up what should have been an incredible clash of two comic book giants. Considering the writers had over 75 years of back story to mine, it's laughable that the premise behind this short-lived battle was something even the most creatively lacking fans would have avoided, the reconciliation even more ridiculous. Also, the conclusion suggests something I'd feared ever since the ill-fated Superman Lives: too many people in control at WB are clearly embarrassed at having to continue producing the Superman fans expect, so their solution is to change virtually everything about him until the same die hard audience begs for them to stop. After initially showing reservation at the idea, can't they just ask Greg Berlanti to move over from the medium of television, as he at least seems to understand the tone such characters deserve, even if he's not a proven big screen director?

I think this is a very apt description of most of the major problems with the film. It's a big mess.

I'd also give a very simple flaw: 5) there's no real sense of fun in the movie. It's very grim, heavy handed, and much too serious. There are very few moments to catch your breath and laugh for a moment, or even prepare for some pivotal moment about to hit. A good movie has peaks and valleys, and Batman vs. Superman just felt very dull and "same note" all the way through.

BTW, here's an interesting industry analysis on how the film did from a profit point of view:

Box Office: The Verdict for 'Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice' ยป

The gist of it is: it's not going to make it to $900M, so from some perspectives this is a disappointment. Warner Bros. really wanted (and expected) it to make $1 billion or more. Bear in mind that Deadpool -- a far better movie, IMHO -- made more money and cost 1/4 as much.

  23. Interesting....yes I agree part of the flaw of the film was thst it was so grim. I wonder how they will try and adjust for this with Justice League which is shooting now. The humor at the end between Superman and Batman where they do the "I thought she was with you" exchange over Womder Woman was more of what I expected from the film. Still, I am curious to see the longer cut and is if it allows a bit more room to breathe for all,the plot points crammed into the movie. It's a shame, really, because someone could have made this a great film with the proper script, etc. I don't know if Zack Snyder was the right person to launch the DC universe but what's done is done and he certainly had a unique, darker take on characters that have, mostly been played for camp or with light humor over the years.

It's miles removed from Richard Donner's "Superman" and even more grim than The Dark Knight trilogy in my opinion especially given that the Superman character was involved.

Marvel showed that they could be true to the character and tone of the comics while also being humorous something that Snyder has yet to demonstrate.

  24. I also find it bizarre to have TWO Barry Allen's. Why not use the same actor for both as he's proven he's a terrific performer. I understand there might have been an overlap in shooting schedule but still it's odd to have two completely dissimilar people, playing the same character in different mediums at the same time. Yes, I know they do like they did with Supergirl and suggest it takes place on an alternate Earth but it would have been really cool,to tie all,of these properties together with one bow.

  25. I thought this is something we might see in a Nolan film with Batman but for Superman? It did seem an odd, cynical choice although it did expand the reason for the conflict and was used effectively.

One cool thing about the movie was,how it did I corporate actual panels from the comic books and they were iconic ones as well. Snyder got the look right but the tone is another issue altogether.
