Thought I'd post this as it looks very interesting and the first episode deals with The Beatles

surprised to see so little response to this series on PBS on the forum. Good stuff so far, I think.

    Yeah, me too.

Especially enjoyed the first one with Sir George.
Tom Petty brings some interesting insights as well.

I've watched two episodes so far, and am enjoying it a lot. It has a lot of behind-the-scenes studio footage. The first episode focused more on personalities, while the second episode was more of a balance between personality and technical info. I really liked the detailed history of the recording of Tomorrow Never Knows.

I would like it if it included some classical recording info, but I guess popular recording history is more interesting. It's nice that they have some quotes from Eno, and I even spied a few very brief shots of him in the studio from the 70s. I hope they detail his career in a future episode.

I've been watching this all week, I think it is pretty good, especially when they show some of the actual recording sessions from the different artists.

Someone posted a clip on facebook of a Who one with Roger and Glyn Johns.
Are these 1 hour documentary type shows similar to the Classic Album docs?

Enjoyed the first episode. Tom Petty, especially.

Ringo makes a strange comment, regarding George Martin taking a chance on the Beatles (not sure that matches Tune In:shrug:), saying that we had been shopped around to most of the other record companies. Yet Ringo didn't join until after Martin had signed the band.

It's a beautiful show, too: fantastic picture quality, great color, a fantastic mix, and you can see they spent a lot of time and money getting all the clips and interviews necessary to tell the story.

I've seen 5 of them so far - and I love it.

It's not as "deep" as I'd like but it's not all just exposition and conclusion sentences, like 85% of music documentaries are.

    Totally worth seeking out.

Is it me or is each new episode worse than the last?

I agree. Episodes 5-8 were not as well done as 1-4, IMHO.

But light years better than most documentaries I've seen.

The TV show "Unsung" suffers from the same issues - the earlier episodes were better than the recent ones.

Couldn't believe they had a clip of Waits!
Knopfler's Brothers In Arms story was heartwarming, but surprising

I think the series is awesome for those of us into recorded music which is quite different than any other music series I have ever seen. The clips they selected were awesome.
