I contacted Phoenix Engineering through the www.phoenix-engr.com Contact Page letting them know we are interested in a Group Buy, along with the link to this thread. Hopefully, they will join in on the conversation shortly.

Actually there is a difference. If you use the PSU only, the platter will have excellent short term speed stability, but can be prone to long term drift as the table warms up. The motor maintains constant and very accurate speed, but the platter will slowly drift in speed. Piano notes will be steady but the pitch may change slightly at an inaudible rate as the speed slowly drifts. This is due to the bearing and belt changing as the table warms up. Most people would not notice the change unless you correct it after it has drifted.

With the tachometer feedback, the platter will have excellent short term stability as well as long term speed accuracy.

The speed of the platter can also be affected by moving the motor assembly, changing position of the belt on the motor pulley or platter and belt diameter. The feedback from the RR tach will correct for any of these changes.

Thanks for the heads up Dave, I don't normally monitor this site as there was very little activity after the initial thread.

Unfortunately we do not sell direct, only through our dealer network. You can contact the dealers listed on our website and see if any of them would offer a qty discount.

Now that makes perfect sense. Thank you. I will probably start off with the Falcon on its only. And succumb to the irresistible pull of the Roadrunner in another year or so!

I'd be interested in participating in a group buy if you are able to find a dealer willing to provide one.

It doesn't appear that their dealer page works on Apple devices. I can't past the first two California dealers (A/V Solutions and Brooks Berdan LTD). I tried on my iPad and iPhone. I gave up trying.

It's frustrating when you can't pull up a site on a phone or tablet. Here's the list but it would probably be best to see how much interest there is in a group buy before putting too much effort into it.

I got mine from A/V Solutions and had it drop shipped to my house, it came quick. Ordered over the phone.

Just email Phoenix Eng. and ask what version you need for your specific model Classic. I ended up opening my Scout's motor housing and checking that it was indeed a 5W motor but you might not need to do that.

Would this work with a U-Turn table?

Ask Phoenix. But if your U-Turn table uses a motor that simply plugs into the wall it should. If there are other electronics in the U-Turn (besides an On/Off switch) I don't know...

Honestly, no offense, but I wouldn't spend this type of money on upgrading a U-turn. I mean, the Falcon and Roadrunner together I think are more than the price of the U-turn. You're better off saving up for a different turntable, like a Rega P3 or something. Just take the U-turn for what it is, an affordable, beginner's table, that shouldn't be upgraded.

It closed doors at least a couple of months ago--the owner retired and decided not to pass on his knowledge/products.

That's a bummer. I'm really impressed with the Phoenix Engineering products I bought.
