The missus and I took the show in last night. The theater was not busy. It was very cool to see the show up on the big screen. Much more impactful and I had forgotten how well the songs flow with the story. I had also forgot that scene near the end where Morris shows a bit of sympathy for The Kid after the dig about his family. Watching Purple Rain was special and difficult at the same time. I strongly recommend anyone who has a chance to take in the viewing on the big screen to do so.
I hear you, for some people it's not conducive or hardly even an option, at least when working, and especially if you are writing the songs too, and also performing, to even have the time to listen to a small amount of music, new or old.
Just because there is a story to link, does not imply veracity of said link.... How many official reports have their been?
Prince lived a longer, more prolific life, but it's hard now to not draw some parallels between him and Elvis. They basically lived secluded in a compound, though Prince had become less hermetic in recent years. Now it seems that Prince had his own version(s) of Dr. Nick. And time ran out on both before help arrived. It makes "Let's Go Crazy" at least temporarily a hard one to bear for me, hearing allusions to an elevator and "Dr Everything-Gonna-Be-Alright."
If you're referring to the Star-Tribune link, that's Minneapolis-St. Paul's major newspaper. It's a credible report.
A very good read... The Reporting on Prince’s Death Reveals That We Have No Idea What “Addiction” Really Means »
im not referring to any in particular, there are a lot of links and stories right now, and Im not sure we really KNOW anything at this point. Many credible sources report things that are less then the truth....Maybe its my medical background taking over but I have yet to see an actual official report
I had a talk with my neighbor in the days after he died about how he could NOT have been addicted to drugs due to how prolific he was etc etc. Very sad...
I understand where you're coming from, but the link being shared this morning comes from testimonials from doctors who were summoned by Prince to help him for specific reasons, one of whom was on site and made the 911 call when he was discovered. I think this story makes things a lot clearer.
have you seen the conflicting stories of the docs who treated Lennon? They were "there" also.. just saying, we have no official ruling yet. Doesn't mean its not true....
I understand where you are coming from...I posted the link...I hesitated until I checked the sources credibility. That said, it doesn't mean that it is definitely true. But it sure does fill in a lot of blanks . The whole question of why the person making the 911 call had no idea of the address makes more sense as well. I guess we will see, but this sounds about as close to the truth as we have gotten thus far. But then maybe I am jaded having lived with an addict with an opiate problem , maybe I see what isn't there...I don't know...
Completely agree. My post wasn't meant to imply that J.G. 's rehab stint led directly to his death. Just the irony of the when and where. I have always believed that it was the weight, disease and 2 pack a day cigs.
“We are all alone, born alone, die alone, and—in spite of True Romance magazines—we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely—at least, not all the time—but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don't see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.” - Hunter S. Thompson
I didn't always like the way Hunter Thompson lived his life, but there is some genuine wisdom in this quote.
News stories and official reports are two different things. As for the latest from the Star-Tribune (help came 8 hours late despite best efforts), that story names names, and not just unknown "sources". So it's already separated itself from the pack, even if other parts of the Star-Tribune are going over the top for my taste.
I've known for years that certain anti-depressants have to be tapered off, and that you can not go cold turkey. I did NOT know that about a particular 'scrip I was on, and I just went cold turkey in anticipation of seeing a specialist for some specific problem, wanting to "clear the slate", as it were, giving him the freedom to do what he wanted with me. "I" had no trouble leaving that particular med in the cabinet. My heart had other ideas.
Exactly! I prefer stories that are based on official reports when it comes to these scenarios. Until then I guess ill stay on the music side of this story
IMHO, everything's feasible - especially in combo - except the last one. That "mysterious drug" picked out by the unnamed Walgreen's clerk, as told by the unnamed source, as something usually prescribed for AIDS patients, could well have just been Bactrim, which doesn't REQUIRE that one have AIDS, but it is not doled out like candy to "civilians" with otherwise healthy immune systems, so there's some loose correlation there. No hard association.
Painkillers are nothing to mess around with. The story, if it's true (and Star Tribune isn't given to sensationalising), is just really sad. It's one of those situations where if any of a dozen things had gone differently, Prince would still be alive today.
