I thought you were talking about coming to your end whilst floating. The Commander Cody reference was cool, but not what I thought.
Floating would be my way out.

Daevid Allen died of cancer in 2015, 77 year old. The last Gong album "I See You" was appearently made while he was treated from it and by the end it was terminal. He annnounced on facebook that he had six months to live. So, it's not an album about cancer but made while struggling with it. He never lost his sense of humor, that's for sure. It's not as requiem-y as Bowie's farewell album and masterpiece ★ but contains wonderful adventurous music. So... well, I don't know, I'm just trying to come up with something theme releated. ;)

Pink Floyd's Dogs off of Animals
has a mid section dealing with true isolation
"and in the end you will pack up, fly down south, hide your head in the sand, just another sad old man, all alone and dying of cancer"

the repression brought on man's best friend (or is it a repressed man)
and the isolation of the oppressor whose life is futile anyway

Since you say your wife has a good sense of humor, here goes:
Float On - The Floaters. "Cancer and my name is Larry. And I like a woman who loves everything and everybody because I like everybody and everything."
Song For A Future Generation - B-52s. "Hey, I'm Fred. the Cancerian from New Jersey. I like collecting records and exploring the Cave of the Unknown".
Hope this brought a smile to her lips.

Olivia Newton-John has done a number of albums about her cancer journey. Her 1994 self-penned album 'Gaia: One Woman's Journey' was the first, and the songs are probably the most pop/'upbeat'. 'Not Gonna Give Into It' is the pick of the album in terms of inspirational lyrics about cancer.

For a good upbeat song, there's always "Tubthumping" by Chumbawamba.

Please read up on this site if you haven't already. A friend of mine survived colon cancer by following his advice.

Dancing Down The Stony Road a double blues based CD by Chris Rea was inspired and address these issues after going through a long, tough & life saving/changing op for pancreatic cancer in 2001. Well worth a listen.

The Eels Electro-Shock Blues is all about Mark E's family dying all around him, father, sister, mother. His mother was the cancer victim, but it's really an amazing album, quite an emotional listen with some ups and downs, especially the final 3 songs... the one below comes early on the record and I think was the single but it's one of those records that really deserves an uninterrupted listen in the sweet spot ...

I had a crazy old uncle who died from cancer, he would have LOVED that song - but we never heard it.
I only heard it last year, and it totally reminds me of him. Deep song, gallows humor.

I don't think that's a fair assessment. Death certainly hangs over the entire album, but I don't recall cancer being spoken about in every song.

The OP was asking for specific songs (not entire albums) dealing with cancer, so I provided the one song 'What's good', that in my view, best fit their request.
