"Dark Necessities" sounds like one of the working names for the Hot Topic stores back in the 90's.

Ugh, figured it would be crushed.

  5. That is one great disco song, but without Frusciante I just can't get there. Hope it succeeds for them tho...

That would 7 be if you're including BSSM.

Very cool, first single better than anything from their last album.

So is Boston! Remember Boston I think had releases in 1976, 1978, 1986, 1994, 2002. That's even worse because perfectionist Tom Scholz did that in an era where every 1 or 2 years an album was released.

I like it a lot.But no Rick Rubin producing? I thought he had like a lifetime contract with them-like the 5th Pepper or something to that effect.

Probably Nigel Goodrich's mix, he did the same with Roger Waters The Wall Live unfortunately.

Not as bad as the DR4 (and 3 on some tracks) on their last album. And it's better produced, so that helps.

Considering your main interests here are old cereal brands and toys from your youth I would guess this would be a positive point for you.

John Frusciante is like the Izzy Straddlin of Red Hot Chili Peppers-he's not the frontman, but he seems to have as many fans. I'm still willing to give the Pepps a try here despite the lack of John and Rick Rubin. It's the Peppers, there's talent here regardless of either of these missing pieces. We'll see if Danger Mouse was the right fit I guess.

They don't have much edge anymore do they?

Without youth, drugs and Frusciante life is pretty bland for the RHCP

Can't imagine that they will be performing 'Special Secret Song Inside' on the next world tour.

Why does their music need to be edgy? Were people listening only because of the edginess and not because the music was good?

So you are agreeing that their music lacks edge?

Explicate that one for me, if you will...

  23. Explication? The guy asked a simple question: "Why does their music need to be edgy? Were people listening only because of the edginess and not because the music was good?"
And of course he's right. Good, melodic music is good, melodic music.
Your answer: "So you are agreeing that their music lacks edge?"
    Where did that come from?
    What's your point?
Are you implying that a song can't be good unless it's edgy?

I never implied anything that you or the other person insinuated.

It seems that you are very defensive about whether or not people think RHCP are still good.

I asked the question "They don't have much edge anymore do they?" ~ no one answered!
