  4. THIS. It's like the unused soundtrack to the last third of 2001. Feel the cosmos, the vastness, the splendor, the absolute isolation.

    Well said!!!!!

  6. Thanks! Another thing I find interesting about this music is, it isn't too far off from actual cosmic sounds within the audible spectrum that are given off by stars and planets. Like, you want real cosmic music? Check out this half-hour piece of ambient drone performed by, well, Saturn:

I thought the same thing! As a matter of fact, I was discussing the actual sounds of space with a friend who is an astrological nut...
He actually took a pic of Saturn with his telescope.

    This is freaky....

My standard answer for this kind of question is Earthless - Rhythms From A Cosmic Sky. It melts my brain.

Of the two LPs that make up Soft Machine Six, one is a live LP which is an enjoyable jazzy set, and the other is studio recordings that get right out there...

I felt like if Syd Barrett would have continued musically he would have ended in a place that sounded like The Maria Dimension or Crushed Velvet Apocalypse. Edward is a musical tour de force and appears to be not slowing down at all. I met him several times and is the nicest guy. I was fortunate enough to the the LPD's at their peak.

Maybe I need to give this another chance. I tried it once, and it was just TOO abstract/isolated for me. I love TD starting with Phaedra, but this one went over my head.

Speaking of the main topic of the thread, my vote would probably be Phaedra.
