This happens a bit in metal. Sodom, Dismember, probably a bunch more... I think they do it when they're consciously going for a "classic" late in their career.

Caetano Veloso's first album was Domingo. His next three were self titled. Jorge Ben's fourth or fifth album was self-titled. Nara Leao had a few albums just titled Nara. I think that Elis Regina, Tom Ze, Gilberto Gil and crazy-haired Gal Costa also had a few self-titled albums. I guess the Brazilians didn't put much thought into titling their albums.

She made her debut in 1965 with two albums on the same day. Some discographies have them in this order "Come My Way" and "Marianne Faithfull".

Foghat's first two albums were both self-titled, but the second has been nicknamed Rock and Roll (or Stone and Bun).

And just about every LP by Brel, Brassens, Moustaki, Malicorne...all called the same, all with no dates on the label.

Janis Ian - Although her debut album in 1967 was self-titled, so was her 10th in 1978.

Seal - Even though people tend to refer to his 2nd album as Seal II, it's official title is just Seal (same as his debut).

Even though some bands I really like have done this, I still think it's an unimaginative practice. And I also think bands that can't come up with a title for their debut are kind of unimaginative too. But the worst ones are those artists that use that same unimaginative approach over and over, now that's just dumb :)
