Rattle that Lock.... Gilmour knocked it out of the park with this one. I did not care for On an Island at all with the exception of 2 or three tracks...so I had zero expectations for Rattle That Lock... but I loved it..

    Atmospheric and Meddle like this.
  2. Pros and Cons got my vote. The Madcap Laughs is a close 2nd.

But Gilmour's first solo album is a close second.

My thoughts and vote exactly. I'd slot Pros & Cons in next behind these four.

I voted Gilmour's first solo LP, one of the best Floyd albums that never was. IMHO if it had been a Floyd album it would of fit perfectly between Obscured By Clouds, and Meddle.

    The Wall. ;) hehe

I honestly never liked The Madcap Laughs. In fact, I thought it wasn't very good.

Radio KAOS with Pros and Cons a very close second. I was lucky enough to see the Pros and Cons show live and the Gilmour solo tour live about the same time. I really don't dislike any on the list. Both Barrett albums are excellent.

    Amused to Death, I think.

I bought the recent reissue, but have yet to play it - I enjoy the original too much. :D

Reviving this in the light of the new Roger album. Intrigued on the comments about his best LP. Always felt it was Amused to Death, which this poll seems to confirm, but a lot of people disagree.

Amused To Death, with Pros & Cons a tiny bit behind.

  12. Since I have never heard most of the albums listed there is no way I can vote. Has anyone heard them all?
I'm not a big Roger Waters fan, but did and still do enjoy The Pros and Cons...

I have to go with Madcap Laughs, but I do really like Barrett, Amused to Death, David Gilmour, and Wet Dreams as well

David Gilmour, for me. I have to have There's No Way Out of Here.

Good idea for a thread. I haven't even heard half of these, but what I have heard, they're all missing something, namely, what the other members brought to the table (I guess it's a similar thing to the Beatles solo output, there was always an incomplete quality to some of it).

I went with The Madcap Laughs, though musically, it doesn't hold a candle to most of these other releases. But it's the one with the most creative spark to me, even if that is a fractured spark from a Syd Barrett in a decline (Barrett the album has some nice moments as well, and I would sooner put that on than any of the other's solo records).

Can't really vote on this poll as I've only heard the Syd albums... and "Wet Dream", which didn't strike me as anything special. I like Carla Bley and Robert Wyatt, so I reckon I would enjoy "Fictitious Sports". David Gilmour s/t I wouldn't mind hearing. I have no interest in Roger Waters' solo albums, I'm afraid.

The Madcap Laughs is definitely my favorite, even though I tend to prefer post-Syd Floyd (I love all of it though). I really like David Gilmour, too, but I listen to it far less than anything by Pink Floyd or Syd's solo work.

I would pick the Barrett albums over anything else, but I do have a soft spot for On An Island
