For a lot of bands that were arguebly better singles bands than album bands their "best of " albums sold better than many of their studio albums.Yet for most of the vinyl being reissued many of these well received "best ofs" are NOT reissued. Was wondering is this due to seperate licensing issues or something else? Just a few artists that have bests of's released on vinyl (and some never released on vinyl) labels should be looking at to reissue pronto: 1.Lenny Kravitz-Greatist Hits (Released on Simply Vinyl briefly early 2000s) 2.Massive Attack-Collected (released on vinyl briefly) 3.Van Morrison-Best of (released on vinyl) 4.The Cure-Galore (released on vinyl briefly) 5.New Order-Substance (released on vinyl) 6.New Order-Best of (never released on vinyl) 7.U2-The Best of (1980-1990) (released on vinyl briefly sans b sides) 8.Duran Duran-Greatist (never released on vinyl) 9.The Church-Under The Milky Way (never released on vinyl) 10.The Replacements-Do You Know Who I Was? (Never released on vinyl) 11.Stone Roses-The Very Best of (briefly released on vinyl) 12.Psychedelic Furs-All of This And Nothing (released on vinyl) 13.Golden Smog-Stay Golden (never released on vinyl) 14.Paul Westerberg-Besterberg (never released on vinyl) Any you can think of that stand out for vinyl reissue?
There was an article recently (I will try to find it) that talked about how record companies have pretty much abandoned "Greatest Hits" and similar compilations because they do poorly in the age of the easy-to-compile playlist. Kate Bush's "The Whole Story" stands out for me as a great gateway to her work that should be brought back in print on vinyl.
Of your list I have the Stones Roses best of on vinyl, probably as rare as hen's teeth now. I wouldn't mind a double vinyl Blondie best of covering the 1976-1982 period. Always thought they were more on a singles band but not a whole album band (if that makes sense). The 1981 comp goes only so far. Has there ever been a best off on vinyl apart from the 1981 comp (see below)?
Maybe not those two particular releases but there are Cure and U2 best ofs currently in print on vinyl.
A few More: 1.The Sisters of Mercy-A Slight Case of Overbombing 1992 best of never released on vinyl I believe 2.The Jesus And Mary Chain-21 Singles (never released on vinyl) 3.Echo and The Bunnymen-Ballyhoo (never released in the U.S.) 4.The English Beat-Beat This! (Never released on vinyl) 5.Fine Young Cannibals-The Finest (never released on vinyl)
Some of these that you mentioned are on vinyl, i have The Best Of New Order ( and Substance ). Singles is going to be released on vinyl at the end of this month. I've always thought a nice Substance box that also included the b sides should be realeased. The Sisters Of Mercy best of was also on vinyl. But like New Order's only overseas.
For the price tag on "Singles' it better be the best damn sounding collection on the planet, the old compact disc of it sounded like garbage...
