    "Terminal" Tours:

    Tragically Hip
    Spirit of the West
    Wilko Johnson(diagnosis reversed)
    Glen Campbell
    Tony Iommi/Sabbath
    Bobby Womack in 2013

There's been other tours like Lemmy/Motorhead where the writing was clearly on the walls.

gkella, I've already done that! Very impressed with these guys and their sound. Thanks! Kind of a Crazy Horse gone a bit frantic!

I've always been hostile towards the Hip for no apparent reason other than outright ignorance and stubbornness. They weren't hardcore enough for me. I didn't like the way Gord moves when he sings. Everyone else liked them and therefore I shouldn't. But the above quoted post (and obviously the news) has prompted me to purchase Fully Completely, an album whose cover I have seen thousands of times (but refused to actually listen to), and whose many songs I know very well (it would be well nigh impossible to not have heard their songs countless times via friends, TV, radio, etc. in Canada in the '90s). But listening to it right now for the first time as a proper album, it's really, REALLY good. Just good feelin', solid rock. It almost has a Rush "Counterparts" kinda vibe. Really good stuff. I guess I'll start checking out their other stuff now.

While I am not a Hip fan and I have never liked a single song that I have heard I did get to shoot them back in 2013 when they played the local festival. Here is a couple shots I took....

Ahh my mistake, still...good to see bands doing things for the right reasons.

I got to know The Hip as an opener for Dogs D'Amour, round the time of Up to Here. Almost nobody in Germany knew (or knows) them. When I traveled to Montreal once years ago and saw posters announcing the gig of a Hip tribute band, I knew they must be pretty huge in Canada.

Prayers and good thoughts for Gord & family, and the rest of The Hip and theirs.
If you've never seen these guys live, do it.

  11. Most people outside of Canada think of Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen as some of the best Canadian talent about (and not unjustifiably so), but no one represented Canada through his lyrics better than Gord Downie. He truly is the quintessential Canadian Poet Laureate.

    Godspeed Gord!

Sorry to hear the pain and misery this guy is going through. Hopefully a miracle of some sort will happen.

Actually, i believe the story is that the bar manager hired them for 2 or 3 sets, but then wouldn't pay them unless they played 5 or 6 sets. Memory is foggy, it's either from Full Fledged Vanity, or Heksenketel, two short doc shows they did in the past......

Saw The Hip many times in the 90's/00's, always first rate. But seeing Gord (with Country of Miracles) play Shank Hall in Milwaukee for about 30 of us, and then hang out and chat with anyone who was interested was insane. Just a super smart, well mannered, and nice guy.

His Solo work is just as solid on another level.
