And the winner is Chris Cornell - A&M.

TEMPLE OF THE DOG Lawsuit Settled; Master Tapes Back In CHRIS CORNELL’s Hands »

A legal battle over the rights to the Temple Of The Dog masters tapes has been settled. Temple Of The Dog was the sole endeavour by the supergroup of the same name whose lineup included members of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam. The album was recorded in 1990 at London Bridge Studios in Seattle and became a platinum seller that brought together members of two of the city’s defining bands. The story behind the making of the album, recorded in just 15 days, has become a thing of grunge legend.

TMZ reports that Chris Cornell just got his hands on the master tapes for the album - and it only took him 25 years to do it. Chris and A&M actually got the physical tapes back on Tuesday, ending the battle with producer Rick Parashar.

Parashar had kept the 1991 masters - which are iconic since the band's one and only self-titled record featured Cornell, Eddie Vedder and future Soundgarden and Pearl Jam members. When Parashar died his family continued to fight A&M for ownership.

TMZ are told the label's looking to reissue the album for the 25th anniversary. Cornell posted the image below with the caption, “Temple Of The Dog master tapes returned today. History made whole 25 years later!”

It makes me wonder if we're going to get a proper LP re-issue - AAA (that would be nice). The MOV re-issue was nothing special and the original LP is a single, it's time for someone to do it right.

That's very cool. However, both the original US and Japan pressings sound very good. I'm sure they'll just compress it to death.

Based on how Soundgarden and Pearl Jam reissues have all turned out so far, you're probably right. At least maybe we can hope for some new bonus tracks or something.

It's time for a vinyl cut of this, AAA. KG or CB. I'll buy 10, and listen to them all.

Why bother? Everyone here will just complain about the remaster.

Hey, if Audio Fidelity can do Rage Against The Machine, they can do Temple Of The Dog! ;)

Good luck with that. Cornell will ask for a nice big check for that.

I know. I'm sure he didn't just re-acquire the tapes to license them out to a boutique label. But I wish that were the case.

Exactly what I thought. Why so many tape boxes? Shouldn't there only be 2?

Looks like 2 inch reels to boot.

I bought the original CD back in 1990! Still have it.

The original CD sounds fine. No need for a remaster but I would buy a box set featuring demos, outtakes, etc. A high res surround mix would be great too

Would help to flood their social media page with this request and any time someone sees something proposing AAA, we all rate it higher. If we can get these kinds of comments to be the most popular, maybe someone will do something about it!

Actually yes! Mine might even have the promo stamp on it. I was writing record reviews for my college paper. It may have been 1991..can't exactly remember.

Interesting story. A friend of mine owned a record store. And they kept telling him about a record that was coming out by a group named Pearl Jam. For a year..they even sent posters to put up. Everybody in the store was buzzing about and kept asking for a release date.

Bang..one day it shows up..in the classic long box. I bought it that day. Still have that too.

    I'm surprised there aren't more.
You have the original takes plus the masters it looks like.

Must not be many outtakes/alternate takes although I'd love to hear Reach Down with the full guitar outro.

I think I was first in there to say that, maybe he will actually read it.

Maybe they'll finally get rid of the ringing feedback that permeates the first minute of the song. :hide:
