Actually, I may be wrong about that. I just looked at the one for Amazon, it's a 2013 release. Just to be safe, cancel that order and buy it here:

Interesting...amazon.ca shows a 2016 release. Discogs only shows the colored version as a 2016 newbury release. Will keep my order and see...

Better mastering? No, you say? No thanks. Keep your swirly doo dad colored vinyl and your cardboard box.

Have you listened to the Picture discs of Star Wars Episode IV? How does it sound? I have the OT Star Wars LP albums released this year (June for Star Wars, August for The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi) and they sound good to me, a bit noisy maybe, I'm not very keen on how MPO (France) presses LPs.
I don't think they are sourced from the original analog masters but most likely from the HiRez 192 Khz/24 bit transfers which are also available for download. I have those HiRez 192/24 downloads and I like very much how they sound.
Now my question is: 2017 is the 40th Anniversary of Star Wars, what new releases of these soundtracks will they offer us? HiRez multichannel maybe? Sure they'll release something new.

Are you referring to the picture disc set I was speaking about above??

Yes, I'm curious about the sound of this set, although most likely is the same mastering as the previously available golden LP set.

Very possible. I haven't listened to the gold version, but I really enjoyed the picture disc. :)

My golden discs are a bit noise, how's your set?

Anyway, as much as I love Vinyl LP's, I mostly listen to the Star Wars (original trilogy) soundtracks on digital 192 Khz/24 bit. I know this soundtracks very very well as they are my favourites (along with Williams E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, which I have the SACD and Michael Nyman's Gattaca), on the last 30 something years I've played the original albums in their 1977, 1980 and 1983 incarnations mostly, both on LP and CD, and not later remastered releases. The 192 Khz/24 bit digital downloads are the best sounding available versions of these soundtracks.

    I have a quick question:

are these latest individual LP releases using the exact same cut/mastering as the black vinyl versions from the Star Wars Ultimate Vinyl Collection 6LP box set? Same matrix details?

In all this time the Star Wars HiRes downloads have been removed from most, if not all, on line downloading stores, and a friend of mine who works in a record shop has told that once the Sony LP remasters are gone, they're gone as it seems Sony doesn't have the rights to these soundtracks anymore. I think they belong to Disney now so we can expect new releases of the Star Wars soundtracks sometime soon.
