I am hoping to go see Larry play a few towns east of me this Sunday at a neat place called the Falcon. If there are any folks from the Hudson Valley (NY) lurking this thread - he's playing a benefit show for one of his grandchildren who has some health issues. Here's a link: http://www.liveatthefalcon.com/#!0525/c13vc

Barefoot Boy and Spaces are 2 of the very first fusion albums I ever heard, they are so good.

Another favorite is European Impressions which is a solo acoustic album from '78. Side 1 is live at Montreux and he just kills that guitar. Side 2 was recorded in a studio. I do not think it was ever issued on any format besides vinyl.

Fairyland is another great one, also live at Montreux.

His Twin House, an acoustic duet album with Phillip Catherine, is consistently engrossing, compelling, appealing. Few acoustic duet albums by anyone have struck me in this way.

Listening a fine mix of Coryell today. I've seen Larry three times- once in his early fusion days (around the time "Coryell" came out- wow!) later with Laurindo Almeida and Sharon Isbin (wow times three!) and still later in a straight ahead jazz trio setting- yet more wow!) . What an amazing, versatile guitarist! One of my favorites!

Thank you! I'm listening to Barefoot Boy on Apple Music right now, it's really bluddy good! As for Spaces, I'm quite familiar with that one, and so I'll second, third, fourth, or whatever your recommendation.

I like the Coryell/Steve Khan mid 70's album called "Two For The Road" that they did for Arista.

My personal fave is "Cause And Effect" (1998) with Tom Coster, Steve Smith, and few guest bassists. Very nuanced and dexterous playing. Most fusion usually features the latter but not enough of the former for my tastes. This is a great record.

Larry Coryell is definitely in my top 5 of guitarists. I saw him a number of times in the '70s. I saw him blow up an amplifier sometime in the mid-70s.
Here is a nice album not yet mentioned; great compositions on this one:

Great work. I ran into Larry a few years ago - he was pretty exhausted after the final night set of his brief US 11th House reunion tour. When I told him that I thought his Foreplay work with Steve Marcus was IMO jazz fusion's high water mark, he got choked up a bit and we ended up talking about Marcus for probably half an hour. I knew he just wanted to pack up and go home, but every time a great Coryell/Marcus collaboration came up - Scotland I was 1st on my list - he'd want to talk some more about how much credit Marcus deserved.
