I see some people that ain't up back there! You think this is a free ride? Do you think this is a free ride? You wanna play, you've got to pay! Now I wanna see you get up! And out there I want you to walk over to your radio! Turn the mother--- up as loud as she'll go, open up the windows, wake up your neighbors, 'cause if there's something you need, if there's something you want Raise your hand. That performance and a few others where included on the Live '75-85 live box. Bruce came out by himself to start the encores and sat down by the piano and played the debut of Independence day, it was the only solo piano version until Paris 2012. Great great show and you can really feel the vibe from the small Roxy that night
The radio DJs are great. They sound amazed at the three hours show Bruce put on - "he should be dead!" KMET Los Angeles and KSAN San Francisco. I always remember that. I listened to these (5 FM) shows every week for a few years when I was younger
Bluegrass! Garcia loved playing music, all the time. And this is so well recorded by Stanley "Bear" Owsley, warm and inviting with a sparkling clarity.
"Goin' Back" is such a beautiful song. If I could write a single song like that, I would be satisfied (well, actually, I will never be satisfied, but you get the point).
It's really a gorgeous record, and it's a nice contrast to the rockin' Bruce I listened to all weekend.
Live performance of Dark Side from this box. It would be nice to see more archival live material from the good old Floyd.
Buffalo Springfield Again I love the thump-thump sound of the bass and drums on "Mr. Soul". And the badass guitar parts split between the stereo channels. And Neil's vocals.
Jack, Meg, Steve and God. (Tried a couple ways to resize this smaller and couldn't) If you like Clapton, Winwood, Blind Faith, Traffic, you should get this one. They both sound great, singing and playing. I saw this show in Oakland. So very killer.
Going through some of my amazon mp3 purchases that haven't been played in awhile. Hot Tuna - Phosphorescent Rat Most of this album is better than competent blues-rock (c'mon, it's Jorma and Jack - of course it's beautfully played). But it's pretty forgettable music, except for a lovely acoustic instrumental that ends the album. Just Jorma picking his guitar like Rev Gary and all Jorma's other heroes, and it's glorious. I always prefer the country blues and folk Tuna. I can get plenty of brilliant rock playing from these dudes in the Airplane. Frank - September of My Years One of the first albums I bought on amazon mp3 years and years ago. What Frank does with his voice in the title track at "As a man, who has never had the wandering ways" -- that's perfection right there, and it always crushes me. Why have I not played this album in awhile? (is what I always ask myself when I play it)
It had been a long time since I'd listened to this all the way through. Mind-blowing guitar pyrotechnics. I wish I'd kept my LP, just for the artwork.
Springsteen started his second Dublin show infront of 80.000 people with a solo piano version of "Incident on 57th" from 1973. A big fan favorite and deep cut. Ballsy!
After two listens through that glorious 9/19/70 "Dark Star:, I am revisiting an old friend. Streaming the Mono version. . .
Such a great CD set. I bought this in college. It was my first Santana album, which is kind of like DaP 18 being your first GD album. You just jumped into the deep end of the pool junior! No lessons, no floaties, no nothing. Continuing my Clapton binge with E.C. Was Here, another deep ender.
