Your Favorite Thin Lizzy Song?

Whiskey In The Jar. I know its origins go back about 300 years, but Thin Lizzy owns it as far as I'm concerned.

 

Heart Attack, preferably the demo where the synths can be heard. Such GREAT verses.

 

To me, Midge Ure's finest hour and one of my all time favorites from the band.

Thanks for all the great comments. I mixed this track after Phil died, initially just for myself. I took out all the other guitars from the recording to hear what I heard when I first heard Lizzy do this. This recording and a few photos are all that's left of my 'touring days' with the guys.

 

Pick a single Thin Lizzy song as my favorite? Impossible. The best I can do is narrow my favorite album down to a tie between Vegabonds and Nightlife.

 

If it was just one, it would probably be The boys are back in town.
I weas lucky enough to see them in Manchester on the Jailbreak tour and at Reading Festival in 1977.

I absolutely love this one, though...

Some of the tastiest guitar one will ever hear.

Pretty much a perfect song from start to finish.

 

There's so many, but I like "Southbound" from Live and Dangerous. It's interesting to note that the version of that from L&D is actually a soundcheck performance with audience noise dubbed in.

 

Hard rock usually brings me out in a rash but Thin Lizzy were way above the average 'big hair and a strut' outfit.
Lynott was a hugely charismatic front man, had the perfect delivery for that sound and was a top-tier songwriter. They were a big part of my teenage years. Pressed to name one song I'd say 'The Boys Are Back In Town' but they had such a rich and varied catalogue. In the UK they were one of the few rock acts to survive with their credibility intact when punk came along. In a class by themselves.

 

Favourite song is "Shades of a Blue Orphanage", love the later stuff just that song for me is just different.

 

Soooo many great tracks to choose from but my top 2 just may be Johnny the Fox Meets Jimmy the Weed plus Bad Reputation- Robbo's work on the former and Scott Gorhams on the latter floor me every listen.

Litzy were such a great band- one of the best.

Boys are Back--inescapable on the radio and I never tire of it

 

One of the bar bands I played bass for did a pretty nice job on Wild One, dual-guitar harmonies and all, so I have a soft spot for that one.

 

They done some killer live covers too. Bob Seger's Rosalie for example.
