How can one of the greatest emcees and producers of all time barely get mentioned on a renowned music form like this? He might not fit the typical Beatles-demography, but surely I'm not the only fan?

Is there an answer I can give that wont lead to you giving another cantankerous, waste of discussion space reply?

What do you want to hear? That this forum is made up of rap fans but for some reason they all hate Doom so he's never discussed? Or would you rather hear the truth and that is almost NO hip-hop/rap gets discussed here unless you a) have crossover appeal like Kendrick Lamar or b) are named Kanye West. Since Doom has almost no crossover appeal and isn't named Kanye then I guess you have your answer.

Well I'm glad you started the thread anyway - it could turn some of the more open minded people in this forum onto his music.

While there's certainly an element of truth to what you are saying, someone has to start these types of conversations for the forum to advance its topics/artists/genres discussed. For that, I salute @BlueGangsta.

I've always been partial to the 12" version of "Dead Bent."

Now, do I believe he's one of the greatest emcees/producers EVER in the history of the genre? I think that's a stretch, but he is certainly very talented on both fronts and entertaining.

    (Slightly off-topic)
Producers who I think are better just off the top of my head:
    Pete Rock
    DJ Premier
    Dilla
    Kanye
    Dre

Emcees who I think are better:
    LL Cool J
    Nas
    2Pac
    Rakim
    Big Daddy Kane

But those are discussions for another thread.

Also, the end of "Rhymes Like Dimes" cracks me up.

"What are you supposed to say at the end of records? I DON'T KNOW! Mashed potatoes... applesauce..."

Oh hell, what kind of SHTV forum member would I be if I didn't work in a Beatles angle on this thread?

The floodgates should now open because...

"Tick, Tick..." samples "Glass Onion" by The Beatles.

MF Doom makes music for an extremely niche crowd. Most people just won't get his music. It's too abstract and out there. Plus most people don't listen to underground Hip-Hop.
