Well, it does clear up the confusion.

    Backwards record, eh?:D

I do remember back in the day buying more than one cassette tape and bringing it home only to find it played backwards, fortunately exchanging them wasn't a problem.

Yes, but that makes sense for classical music that gets louder towards the end โ€“ it is less prone to distortion that way.

There was a promo EP from '91 by School Of Fish (it was called 'The Wrong Sampler', because the main song was titled "Wrong" and that you had to play the record the "wrong" way!) that did the same thing. I worked in a record store back then and I used to snag all the vinyl promos as I was the only guy who had a turntable! It was the first time I had seen a record cut that way (it was on blue vinyl to boot), and I would be mesmerized, watching the record track backwards from the inner groove to the outer! Yeah, I had no life back then! ;)

But the vinyl doesn't play from inner to outer. It plays normally and is mastered from a tape played backwards.

Yeah, I don't think my linear-tracking Sony turntable will track in reverse. Of course, the whole reason I bought it was to avoid the NEED for a record that tracked in the reverse direction.

Some of it does, much of it doesn't.

The 12" single of "Lonely Boy" by the Black Keys is another record that plays inside to out.

What happens if you drop the needle on the outermost groove like a normal record?

I would imagine that this record would have a run-out circular groove around the outside edge, which would act like the inner groove of a normal record.

Prince's vinyl 12" single of 'Get Wild' plays from the inside out as well.

At Lyntone, we had a couple of occasions when a mother was used as a stamper in error! I wish that I had kept an example!
