  4. I'm more surprised that they were still with the show. I mean, they're no spring chickens - Bob McGrath is 84 years old and I would've thought he retired a while ago. Or gone insane after doing a kids show for 47 years. :)

Bob and some Hippie Mupepets sing Good Morning, Starshine from the musical Hair (!).

Like wow, dig that shirt on Bob!

Hey, if Elmo-mania couldn't kill Sesame Street, nothing will. :)

They spent nearly 50 years continuously employed on a TV show --how many performers can say that? I'm not going to feel too sorry for them.

Yeah, it's a dog eat dog world out there. These dudes had a good run. As stated above, I'm surprised they (were) still around.

While unfortunate from a purely nostalgic viewpoint, these people really are getting up there in years. Kind of surprised it hadn't happened before. You're 84, dude. Retire.

  16. They're just not trending with the four-year olds. They do ok with the six-year olds but that four year market is a tough bunch.

I didn't even know they were still on the show after all these years.

I'm sure they'll be sad all the way to the bank.

Apparently the public outcry brought them back.
If only p@$&;:/s worked that way :)

Before the advent of Sesame Street, I remember seeing Bob McGrath singing in commercials in Japan. I had no idea he was still on the show.

the show really hasn't been the same since they radically altered its tried-and-true format built on cleverness and sound pedagogical theory in response to... corporate market research data. that was the beginning of 'Elmo's world,' CTW's name change to 'sesame workshop,' and the sound of Jim Henson's spirit quietly leaving the building forever.

the DVD sets of pieces-parts of the old shows are fine, but I really wish they'd release some kind of comprehensive box set that covers the full set of the short films and skits created for the show from something like '69-'99. the daily supporting plots from each episode are less significant (to me) and would be difficult to release given that there are thousands of them, but there are only a few hundred shorts that were often recycled for decades. that could be done, right?

...and as long as I'm totally dreaming, king crimson on spotify would be nice, too.
