I didn't hear the entirety of Diamond Life until after Promise was released. I loved both immediately, though perhaps my immediate acceptance was helped along by the amorous context in which I heard these albums.

Stronger Than Pride was the first Sade album I bought as soon as it was released and I must admit that I was immediately a little disappointed with it. It grew on me quickly, though.

If you're referring to Sade Adu, not the band Sade, then yes.

It's an album by album thread. Stronger Than Pride is next.

Sorry, I worded that incorrectly. Philadelphia is the only one that I'm aware of.

I remember hearing Is it a Crime as an intro tune to the first episode of that rather silly TV-series about a radio man (Jack Killian? Nighthawk?:)) that helped people out with their problems. The song - with its big band arrangement - completely floored me and I ran to the store next day and bought Promise. Still one of my favorite albums and imo Sade's finest album among a lot of good ones. Some great hit songs mixed with fantastic deep cuts. A complete album, at least if you omit You're Not The Man that was not included on the original LP, at least not in Europe.

I had a listen to this today - really amazing interview with plenty of wonderful insights for even the most hardcore Sade fan.

    Hi BlueGansta!

    Great thread

I just have a compilation of Sade and i'm very interested on her early (well, all of them) albums...
But i need a little help: Remasters or originals? What's your opinion about that.
    Thanks.

Remasters. Although, the definitive way to listen to Sade is the 2010 MOV vinyls.

I assume by remasters you're referring to something other than that awful brickwalled mess Sade The Ultimate Collection from 2011?

Sigh of relief...I have the only remaster of The Best Of Sade on cd. Sounds very nice.

If that's the only Sade you have, that's a Sade-state-of-affairs.

Considering the small number of Sade albums, there are quite a few B sides (including many remixes and live songs).

Here's something that is a bit different than much of her catalog:

The song "Killer Blow" was featured in this 1986 movie and soundtrack.
Paul Denman is a fantastic bassist. He can be heard playing acoustic on this song.

My opinion, if you're looking for cds, in order of preference:

    1. Original European releases. (I think all of mine were made in Austria.)
    2. Remasters from 2000.
    3. Original U.S. releases.

No argument about Denman's skill. . . but are you sure his is the bass we're hearing in that track?

    Good question!

I can't find any musician credits for the track. He definitely is not in the movie scene. I just assumed that the full Sade band recorded the track in the studio before the scene was filmed.

Bottom Line: Denman does play standup bass.... but I can't be sure that he is on that track.

    ---------------------------------

My pet peeve about later-era Sade music: far too little Denman.
Its almost as if a decision has been made to not use the band's "secret weapon".
