I have an Oppo 3d player and a McIntosh 3d player. I've can order Noah 3D (the Italian version) from Amazon.uk. Can I watch it on either of my players or will the region stuff mess me up?

I myself eBayed the Italian version of Noah 3D from a seller in the U.S. who had a stockpile of them. The Italian Noahs are region-free. The one I ordered played perfectly in a U.S. spec Panasonic 3D player.

Enjoy Noah. In 3D it was actually fun to watch.

Great thanks for the region-free assurance! I've ordered it....

Since I was able to find cheap 3D glasses ($11.50) for my older Sony 3D set (vintage 2010 -- used "IR" technology 3D glasses which are hard to find these days), I've been on a real 3D kick. I just watched the 3D Blu-Ray of "Kiss Me Kate" which was really a lot of fun.....

I have this feeling 3D discs are going to become hugely collectible.

Not all discs are region free, so do your homework . I bought the 007 BOND 50 box set from the UK, because it was $100 cheaper than here in Canada. For whatever reason, all but 1 disc was'nt all-region, so I had to buy the NA version of that 1 movie. Still worth it, as I picked it up for $7

This has nothing to do with 3D.

Only downfall is if you buy a UHD player for your 4k TV, UHD does not support 3-D. It will play your Blu-rays but not 3-D Blu-rays.

That would explain why none of the UHD discs have 3D. I would imagine this will change down the road.

Yeah, they were saying that 4K is fantastic for 3D because you can split the image in two and, because of the higher resolution, still have a top quality image.

Cool, sounds like a good reason to not buy a UHD player right now.

Actually, so far that is not true of UHD players.

Granted, at this point in time there may be only one North America market UHD player, the Samsung UBD-K8500 (seen here as an example), but it plays Blu-ray 3D. The Panasonic DMP-UB900 (viewable here) is currently available in the UK, but is expected to arrive in North America before long. The Panasonic player also plays Blu-ray 3D.

I have seen it stated that 3D is not part of the UHD spec due to 3D movies not being mastered in UHD resolution. I can't speak to the veracity of that, but if there are at least a few UHD players and UHD screens that support Blu-ray 3D, all is right with the world.

Sorry, what I meant was UHD players will not support 3-D UHD discs. My bad.

UHD (4K) 3D is not a part of the international UHD specification, therefore the players do not support 4k 3D. However, since the players also support the 'old' HD spec, they should also be able to play HD 3D discs.

I often have nightmares of a 3D version of Eraserhead.

It would be rather interesting to see David Lynch make a 3D movie.

So if they starting making 3D 4k films, it will be possible for these sets to play them? Correct? You would think with all this hoopla about VR that 3D will remain a component of that world -- 3D, VR, sort of in the same "enhanced image" ballpark. And obviously kids willing to wear the huge goggles aren't going to be bitching about wearing a featherweight pair of 3d glasses!

No, not correct. As I said before the UHD spec does not support UHD 3D.

It this thread, a poster claims Panasonic won't do 3D at 4K but Samsung is doing it.

UHD/4K Blu-ray Format will not support 3D! - AVS Forum | Home Theater Discussions And Reviews »

And apparently that Panasonic document which says it won't support 3d also says it won't support 48 frames a second. What gamer is going to want a Panasonic TV? I think high frame rate is going to importantly come into play at some point. Almost seems like one step forward and two steps back.
