The Under My Thumb riff is essentially from The Temptations, It's The Same Old Song.



Satisfaction riff is essentially the horn part from Nowhere To Run. Regarding Keith's dream, he simply dreamt a riff that already existed.

 

The Last Time riff and basic chords are essentially from Freedom Highway by Staples Singers.

 

Was there an earlier recording of Freedom Highway? The Last Time predates that live recording.

It's a bittersweet symph...er, never mind.

 

That is ****ing great. I would love to see video footage of the Staples before their pop stardom. The only one I've seen is this one, and it is absolutely fantastic. Mavis just got to heaven and she can't sit down.

Yeah, not sure, have yet to find any solid proof it was released before The Last Time. So maybe the influence is the other way around.

Isn't that how you say it, when you make some sort of face? Pulling a .....? Unfortunately I don't have a picture of Brian or Keith pulling that face to show people who may not know, exactly what a Nanker is. It looks as horrible as it sounds.

That's the one. Pull the bags of the eyes down and at the same time push the nose up. I've been teaching this charming facial expression to my nephew (much to my sister's annoyance!). He's too young to appreciate the Stones music yet (nine), but certainly old enough to learn a thoroughly unpleasant face.
