Why do I have a funny feeling that this illustration may have been intended to be a guide as to what George wanted the album cover to look like?

I agree with you on the first 2 sentences , but apparently that is the cover he wanted.

Right -- the guy who approved the Gone Troppo cover would NEVER have rubber-stamped the Brainwashed cover...

Anyone else notice the similarity between "Rocking Chair in Hawaii" and Jimmie Rodgers' "T for Texas"?

Also, is there a poll thread for favorite track on this album? I always go back and forth. . .But it's interesting how many varying opinions there are on which of these songs are better than others. Any Road is usually at the top of many lists, but after that it seems a real toss-up...Right now, Rising Sun and Never Get Over You are my runner-ups behind Any Road.

Always wondered if George did that - anyone recognize the writing as his?

The handwriting looks a lot like his, but I could be wrong.

Stuck Inside a Cloud is my first choice -- and vies for my favorite track from all his work. The opening guitar and the solo are breathtaking.

The handwriting does not look like his, but I could be wrong ... ;)

(Hey, if we can say anything, and then say "I could be wrong", this sort of defeats the purpose of ever saying anything. Yes, I declare that the Let It Be film will be secretly released today...but I could be wrong. See what I mean.....)

Seriously: I do think that George drew this, because I doubt that they would have included it in the booklet if he didn't.

George's grammar wasn't too good then...

The man who wrote some of the greatest songs of the 20th century can't write the word "cries".

Clearly it's not him, or he would've written "weeps". ;)

Didn't he fail English in primary school?

He passed the 11+ exam, and so went to the Liverpool Institute, a grammar school. But he left there without any qualifications.

(Not that a grammar school really specialises in grammar...)

I was looking and can't find it where Dhani said it was a 2 CD project all along and we got half of it, the other half containing the missing singles. Dhani also in the same interview was not happy that he had prepped a "rarities" set (pre-Scorcese movie) and it was declined by Capitol. My hope is that now 5 years later and with Paul returning to Capitol that the brick walls that the Harrison's have run into will not be the same for Sir Paul.

I just find it astounding that they'd run into so much label interference. Post Cloud 9, has there been a single project with George's name on it that hasn't sold gangbusters? Put some push behind the damn thing and get it out the door. If Pink Floyd can still command between $470 and $550 depending on where you're shopping for a box set of RARITIES that even most hardcore fans regard as exhaustive, I find it hard to imagine that a $60, four disc rarities set for George wouldn't fly out the door.

As for the topic at hand, I love this album and consider it easily in the top three for George solo. Personally, I'd put it slightly above Cloud 9 even though I regard that album as top notch. Brainwashed is just a very emotive experience. Granted, I heard it for the first time in the aftermath of the breakup of my first serious relationship so songs like "Never Get Over You" sank my battleship rather directly. :p

I do have to second the views voiced up thread about it being a shame that the alleged follow-up album never saw a release. Just from what we know to exist ("Horse to the Water," et. al.), it's entirely likely that another equally strong album is just collecting dust in the vaults and that's a sin and a shame.

During his radio interview with WCBS from November 1971 (the famous interview where he played an acetate of the then unreleased "Great Cock & Seagull Race"), Paul also chose to have Badfinger's new single "Day After Day" (produced by George) played, and he praised the band. Which was a lovely gesture considering his relationship with Apple and with the 3 other Fabs at the time.

The song gets me in the same sad way (maybe more) than "(Just Like) Starting Over".

:agree: So I saw a thread title here about The Turtles having two upcoming box sets. Two.
I don't understand why there is no GH rarities/hits set. A career retrospective. Please, soon.

First things first we should get a deluxe reissue of Brainwashed with demos of all the tracks.

Neither "Best of Dark Horse" or "Live In Japan" cracked the top 100 in the US. "Brainwashed" and "Early Takes" made the top 20 (I think), but both sunk quickly...

Put it this way: is there even a slight chance the label didn't turn a profit (however modest) on these releases? Also, how much promo was involved with any of these releases? They kind of arrived like damp squibs as far as the marketing team was concerned.

"Let it Roll" made #4 in the UK, and the Traveling Wilburys Collection made #1.

By contrast "Brainwashed" only made #29.

Actually, let's try a different yard stick here. Bill Nelson has had an 8 CD box set of his solo years (not widely known at all) released which has either sold out or come very close as I understand it. Tony Banks and Anthony Phillips have had similarly rather nice "book sets" released covering their careers.

I'm just trying to figure out how that can be possible (no complaints that it is), but a major record label doesn't see the merits of a major release for a musician most people know of even if they haven't heard his solo music.
