In line with Phish's tradition of covering another band's classic album on Halloween (i.e., musical costumes), what albums would you like to hear Phish take on?

    My top four choices:

    Octopus - Gentle Giant*
    Flying Teapot - Gong
    Kimono My House - Sparks
    Tago Mago - Can

    * obviously they'd need to augment the group with additional musicians and do a ton of rehearing. But what fun that'd be! :)

That could be interesting, especially side three.

I'm not sure they're doing the full-album Halloween shows anymore. Trey has said such. Personally, I think it's original and fun, but I see his point of not wanting to be so predictable .

Then again, Trey said they'd never reform after they disbanded...

I too think it's a fun tradition, but also would be a ton of work to learn so many songs -- many of which weren't intended for live performance -- for a single show.

I love when they do this, but I think both audience and band would enjoy it more if they picked a single album. I think most agree that the two most successful Halloween shows musically were Remain In Light and Loaded, and I think it largely comes down to learning 8-10 songs versus 15-20.

I also wouldn't be surprised to see them do a cover set of just a band, rather than an album. I also wouldn't be surprised if they played their upcoming LP on Halloween, if it hasn't come out by then.

Well, that plus they had more room for Phish to bring in their own musical identity than the White Album or Quadrophenia (although I thought hearing Phish sing Pete Townshend's angry lyrics was a fascinating contrast to how they sound with their usual more whimsical material).

It's gonna be a Bowie album if they do an album.

Or they do The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway with Peter Gabriel.

Or they debut their upcoming album, which is done.

These of course are guesses, and likely wrong. I have no idea what they should do. Bowie?

I agree on this too. But perhaps having less songs to learn gave them more time to put their own identity into each of them.

No one in the band could sing that stuff, but I agree "Yours Is No Disgrace" and "Starship Trooper" would make for cool Phish covers instrumentally.

I'd like to see them premiere their upcoming new studio album in it's entirety as they did with the 'Fuego' songs on 10/31/13.

An effective cover does not have to be sung identically. Page can handle more than you think. And if they can get away with covering Plant...they could pull this off...
