It's still around but not nearly in the same capacity as it was pre 1970...I want the days of Grant Green, Brubeck, Miles, and Coltrane back. I'm just glad that Charles Lloyd is still putting out excellent releases. If you're ever in the mood for a great modern jazz record with a nice vintage style listen to "Mirror".

We'd be magically bringing back all the creativity and sense of cultural urgency too, right? Because that's the main thing

Great actual live performances that sound like the studio recording.

What is the point of that? You can just stay home and listen to the record.

I meant the ability to sing live and not have a person wonder who it was because it sounded so terrible without the studio tinkering.

I would love to have more music in the 1970's progressive rock style. It's great that there is still plenty of hard rock available by new bands, but it would be great to have more prog. I would love to be able to go and hear music like Tangerine Dream was making in the early to mid 1970's for example or the 1973-4 era King Crimson.

Rock AND Roll, as in the 50s, back to basic, not the later rock without roll that some call rock & roll.

I would just like to see pop rock bands playing honest to god instruments. Writing songs, arranging them, and performing them for real without a bunch of loops and autotune and bologna. I think about when I was a kid and we had mainstream pop bands like Huey Lewis and the News, INXS, John Mellancamp, and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, all with records in the top 40 and played on top 40 radio. I totally took it for granted. I realize those bands aren't necessarily the height of cool on this forum, but some real rock and roll no matter how cheesy would be such a welcome reprieve. I have nothing against electronic music, but everything on the radio doesn't have to be cookie cutter EDM.

I remember in college in the 90's I thought bands like Marcy Playground, 3rd Eye Blind, No Doubt, and Smash Mouth were super cheesy, but in retrospect I didn't know how good I had it.

Check these guys out -- punk is their reference point, but the Crimson influence is very clear:

Man, if I heard a new band that sounded anything like Fountains fo Wayne or Gin Blossoms, I'd be all over them. You're right -- it doesn't have to be monumental. Jsut well constructed songs with hooks. That'll do.

They could do it on supposed live tv performances.
How many would ever appear on a modern Midnight Special if they actually had to sing rather then lip sync?
