Ralph Bakshi is known as the bad boy of animation as he went to places that were considered taboo in the early animation industry. His works are still controversial to this day and he still has his critics.

I saw Lord of the Ring before the great remakes and before I read the books and thought it was awful.

I've seen about 5 of those and I'd say Fritz the Cat is probably the most tolerable.

Funny. I thought any of the X rated ones would be the biggest challenge for people.

Agreed, not the easiest film to follow at times...

I like the new adventures of Mighty Mouse. Not a film, I know, but they're great.

wow, I didn't know people disliked Bakshi in general, especially not this much--sure, the rings film has major issues, but his animation style is utterly brilliant. my love of anything rotoscoped comes directly from his work.

anyway, I picked wizards because it's awesome.

I picked Wizards but I also like TLOTR. I found Fritz to be boring.

That's my favorite too. The rotoscoping is pretty solid and the soundtrack is classic.

Still waiting for a Blu-ray of it.

  13. You are talking about American Pop, right? I thought the rotoscoping was horrid. Amorphous colour fields and shifting details that suggested the animators were being paid minimum for their work.

Not a film, but one of the Bakshi projects I enjoyed most was the old Rocket Robin Hood TV show.... lots of fun, in a "so-bad-it's-good" kinda way. ;)

I really like Fritz, Heavy Traffic, Wizards and Fire & Ice. I probably like Fire & Ice the best of the bunch.

.... and I'm probably one of the few who likes Cool World (well, likes might be a bit too much praise. Tolerates well would be closer).

I've only seen American Pop and thought it was terrible.

  21. I like Fritz enough that I have it on DVD. I also liked Cool World. The others I haven't seen.
Mind you, I'm not one to talk, I loved Shame Of The Jungle.

A bit over 10 years ago one of our networks gave the 1960's Spiderman cartoon a spin. That looked very ..... trippy!

Not done by Raplh, though. Or Robert Crumb. Just a cash-in on the success of the first one.

I think most of those still need to get a blu ray release. I think Fritz is OOP and even DVDs go for money. HGL might have only got a MOD DVD release and not factory pressed.

A local video store has a $30 copy of Cool World, but I think I'll gamble on it coming out of blu.

As a kid I thought "Lord of the Rings" was great. As a young adult I really enjoyed "Fritz" and "Wizards" a lot. Pretty freaky stuff. "Cool World" got on my nerves, though.

In a fit of nostalgia I bought "Wizards" and "Fire and Ice" on Blu ray a few months ago. "Wizards" is still fun, though not as wild as I found it back then. "Fire and Ice" hasn't aged well for me at all.

    I voted for "Wizards".
