Not a big fan in general, but I do love this collection...one of my earliest and most played CD purchases of the '80's:

My thought and feelings exactly. What in the name of all that is good and righteous in the name rock and roll was he THINKING!!

Bring back the acoustic guitars, mandolins, dobros, fiddles, steel guitars and make some real music. And blackmail Wood into playing lead.

I can hardly talk about this subject rationally without going off the rails. I'm a troll in real life as well. I really can't help it.

Coincidentally - or maybe just as usual, I was playing a fair bit of Rod last night. I have to agree, his choice of musicians, famous or otherwise, was pretty on-point especially the keyboard players (but then, I am biased). Mostly unsung or "under-sung" heroes, in my book.

Of course I caned "Every Picture" last night but have to say how much I love "A Night on the Town" too. Almost equally? Maybe. It's hard to beat a side that contains a run like this:
Tonight's the Night, The First Cut Is the Deepest, Fool for You and then The Killing of Georgie (Part I and II)!!

Yea...Liked that too in the day ...but that was a very slippery slope. That damn Swedish chick he was beddin' was to blame I figured.

All of them through the excellent Atlantic Crossing. If I had to choose, then Gasoline Alley.

Just get the Faces boxed set and you have everything you need from Rod with few exceptions. It's an incredible box set.

WB did start a series of deluxe editions of Rod's albums in 2009, but only got as far as Atlantic Crossing and A Night On The Town. I'd love SACD reissues of these. The SACD of Every Picture Tells A Story is very good.

Other albums I enjoy are Blondes Have More Fun, Out Of Order, Camouflage, Vagabond Heart, When We Were The New Boys, Body Wishes and Every Beat Of My Heart.

Incidentally, many of Rod's albums were reissued with bonus tracks on iTunes a couple of years back. As far as I know, they weren't remastered, though this could have changed by now.

Every Picture Tells A Story, rocked. And how incredible is, Mandolin Wind!

Also love, A Night On The Town - a great 70's album, especially side 1.

I'm can't recall verbatim the review I've read that called it the greatest drunk album ever.

I can't believe how great Rod was and what became of him, biggest example of a downfall I can think of.

I'd have to say Footloose and Fancy Free is my favorite. I wouldn't say it's his best but it's still my favorite. Best would be any one of the first four.

Everything he did up to and including 'Atlantic Crossing'. What an amazing body of work in such a short amount of time.
People look at me like I'm joking when I try to tell them he's one of the all time greats.
It's a shame his later career has overshadowed his truely brilliant early work.
