There's room for both Unmasked and Monster in my heart! Hey, Unmasked Monster would be a pretty good song/album title...

I haven't listened to or watched the KISS Rocks Vegas set yet, but the packaging* is probably the coolest thing they've put out since Double Platinum.

*Same style as the Rolling Stones Totally Stripped

Not really I like about 4 tunes on that one (Is that You?, Tomorrow, Shandi, Naked City), I lean towards the heavier side of the band (KISS/HTH/Alive!/Destroyer/Creatures/LIU/Revenge/COS). The band hasn't delivered a perfect or near perfect album yet, Monster doesn't work for me on any level, for one it sounds awful (the recording, engineering, the mix, mastering), I've played it less than 5 times total which puts it right at the bottom with HITS, Crazy Nights, Psycho Circus and Sonic Boom (love Modern Day Delilah though).

What would a perfect KISS album look like from the albums you like?

I purchased the deluxe blue ray and lp's for KISS Rock Vegas and watched the blue ray last night. The deluxe packaging is great and the blue ray was excellent. I thought production of the show was excellent and although the show may have been touched up with some overdubs it was done very well. When I watched the blue ray yesterday I noticed the band played the songs at a faster pace which was refreshing for a live video performance. I would recommend the blue ray for any KISS fans who are on the fence on purchasing the product.

yeah, I have to agree. I wrote a review after it came out comparing "monster" to a painting in a hotel lobby, in that it might have been well done but otherwise completely unremarkable.

A tidy six album discography. I don't get the love for Naked City. It's not bad, it just doesn't stand out to me like others like You're All That I Want.

  10. On the other hand, "You Are All What I Want" is one of the worst songs on "Unmasked". At least the chorus, which I can't stand. And "Naked City" is a terrific power pop tune to me.

The chorus is the best part especially when Stanley comes in at the end.

I have mixed feelings about Monster. I think the first and last songs are excellent. I love those two. Everything in between? It's weird for me. I can listen to it and say, "Yeah, this is okay....this one is good....this is a good sound for them," but then after you've listened, something about them at the same time is very forgettable, imho. I know some really love the LP and I wish I felt the same way.

I love Unmasked. At first I didn't like it that much because it's basically sugary pop songs, but after a few listens I grew to really like it. It's my favorite reissue from the 2014 campaign.

I think Easy As It Seems has an addictive beat, pretty catchy. It also has a bit harder edge than some of the other material.

Shouldn't that be The Carnival's Psycho Revenge? ....and I love the idea of a Carnival/Revenge comp. Talk about a sledgehammer in your face...

Yeah, see, this shows everyone has different likes, preferences, and reactions to the same given material. I looove Naked City. My first listen to Unmasked, the only songs I really liked were Is That You? and Naked City.

Yeah, I will agree with you on that part of the song, but I'm more or less with @Hail Vinyl! on this.

I believe we can chalk that up to Tommy Thayer - he sure knows something about how to put together a pleasing package for KISS fans...

Ace's lead on Save Your Love is just killer. Almost a song within a song.

I like it! I've always thought the Monster cover could have been so much more...the one they went with is fine as a concert t-shirt but not as an album cover...

I was at 2 of the shows on this run. Maybe?

My Amazon (exclusive?) package - book, bluray, dvd, & cd set arrived yesterday. I'm going to try to dig into it tonight.

I ended up skipping the vinyl set to this point. Wondering if I need it? Is there a comparison? Does the vinyl sound much better than the cd?

I ended up canceling my vinyl preorder and just got the bluray/cd for now. I am curious how the vinyl version turned out, I just gotta wait until my wallet recovers from "back To School" expenses before I pick it up. I really like this concert and the bluray looks incredible, I can only imagine how awesome it was for you to see this live!
